Here is a little more information on the features in our new 0xEF update.
FAST Forward
The 0xEF release offers blazing speeds. Here are the design speeds . Your results will vary. The X FFW display was removed. For instance 1X was changed to 1 as 1X was misleading.
FFW1 - 5 times normal playback. (30 minutes in 6 minutes)
FFW2 - 12 times normal playback speed. (30 minutes in 2.5 minutes)
. . . . . . .This was increased slightly from 10x.
FFW3 - 20 times normal playback speed. (30 minutes in 1.5 minutes)
FFW4 - 90 times normal playback speed. (30 minutes in 20 Seconds)
SKIP1 - 300 times normal playback speed. (30 minutes in 6 Seconds)
. . . . . . .Press and hold FFW 3 seconds in a recording up to 60 minutes long
SKIP2 - 600 times normal playback speed. (30 minutes in 3 Seconds)
. . . . . . .Press and hold FFW 3 seconds in a recording of over 60 minutes long
Skip is your FFW5.
Giving Skip the Slip
The design speed for the Advance button (Slip) has doubled to the FF3 speed of 20 times normal playback speed. Again your results may vary. A 30 Second Slip is now shown in about 1.5 seconds.
Shown is the key word.
The old TiVo backdoor Skip took just under a second to skip 30 seconds. But the TiVo Slip screen did not update during the Skip. You had no idea where you were. The old TiVo Skip was blind.
If you pressed TiVo's Skip 8 times to go through 4 minutes of commercials during a game, you could overshoot by 1 or 2 minutes if the break turned out to be shorter. It doesn't matter how fast you are if you don't watch where you are going.
The HR20's Slip lets you see where you are and hit Replay to come back out.
Replay
Your Replay should now consistently go back 6 seconds. Better still, the Reply button is designed to work with the Advance (30 Second Slip) feature. If you see that you want to stop midway through a Slip, press Replay instead of Play. Replay is designed to work with Slip to put you close to where you expected to be.
If you have not taken the Wishlist Survey in the last week, click on that link below. Doug Brott has done a huge updated on the Survey. Also, the Tips, Installation, and Survival Guides below were just updated to include the new 0xEF improvements.
