I tried a test this morning on the new software to see if there is any improvements in handling college football (ESPN GamePlan). Unfortunately, the answer is no.
I tried two approaches on different games - a recording set from the guide and a manual recording. Having been burned by this problem before, I checked the receiver a few minutes into each game. The recording that was set from the guide did not even start - a check of my History stated it was canceled. However, when I tuned to the ESPN GamePlan channel, there was the game and at that point I was able to restart a recording that worked.
I also tried scheduling a different game at the same time using manual recording. According to MyVOD, the game was recording but when you play the recording, there is nothing there. As with the first recording, I was able to reset a manual recording that worked.
This leads me to make a guess at a potential reason for the bug. The HR20 seems to have problems with the first minute or so of the GamePlan subscription, especially in the first games of the day or on a channel. Since these were the first games of the day and there may not be anything shown in the first 30 seconds or so, does the HR20 get "confused" and think that I do not subscribe or is there another reason? As I note, in both cases, I was able to directly tune to the channels myself and restart recordings that seem to be working fine.
I will test a game later today to see if the first game of the day seems to be the issue or not.
