STO will not be in HD

I sent an email to STO to inquire if they would be one of the RSN's going to HD. The response from STO:

DirecTV did announce that they will be offering 30 more HD channels in August to their subscribers. Unfortunately, they informed us that STO HD was not one of them. We expressed our disappointment with this decision. You can email them and voice your displeasure at www.directv.com/email .

I was told by D* in January that STO would definitely be one of the HD channels added in August. This was told to me at the time that I was being offered the free upgrade from the HR10-250, as a MLB EI subscriber. :(

I just sent DirecTV an email to complain. I hope others will as well. STO has lots of Browns coverage and also carries some college sports too. I don't know why Cleveland should be excluded from HD coverage when all the other 24-hour HD RSNs get full coverage.

Money is the usual explanation. Sometimes these negotiations take time...and of course we as customers are in the dark until a deal is completed.

But I would guess that a deal will get done, and all you good folks in Cleveland will be happy soon.
Was watching the game today and noticed that the signal on the HD channel looked the same as the SD channel.

It will still be on MLB EI, and during games in HD. Just not 24/7 HD, correct?
I assume that is the issue.. that it won't be 24/7 HD for a while more.

Yep.
fortunately i still have time warner cable for the time being, so i have 24/7 STO in HD.
The guy at STO told me that it is looking like March or April 2009 before D* will carry them 24/7 in HD. The baseball games will still be in HD, as part of the MLB EI package.

Given you're avatar, and the Raiders performance the past few years, we may be in a pot kettle situation here.;)

Your avatar! Say no more!
March or April? Why will they have the bandwidth to do it then and not now/soon? They have all the bandwidth they are going to have right now until late 2009.
Hey Now!!

Probably some contract situation there will still be bandwidth to add it next spring I would not worry about it. Too bad though they won't add it in time for something like CSU basketball season or something like that.
Its too bad that they are carrying Fox SPorts OHio in HD when they have little HD programming. Not even all of the CAVS games they carry are in HD unless its changing this coming season. It should be the part time HD channel for NE Ohio and let STO, which has a lot of HD programming, be the full time HD RSN. I am sure contracts and kickbacks have something to do with it.
Well I got my reply from D* saying--wait for it--that they have no plans for carrying STO in HD at this time. But they would pass my comments along to Directv Management. I'm just thankful that at least the games will still be in HD on MLB EI :)
