We just had one heck of a wind storm and now I have no signal and am getting searching for signal 771. I tried re-setting the hr20 like dtv said and now it hangs on searching for signal. I also checked the standalone receiver for signal strength and it was at 0. The hr20 will allow me to list my recorded shows but not play them, it freezes when I try. I talked with dtv tech support and they said the earliest a technician can come out is on the 31'st. No tv for almost 3 days will have the wife up in arms along with me missing football this weekend. I have a few questions and hope someone can provide some answers.. :)

1. Should I try and find the signal and re tighten the dish tomorrow when the wind calms down ? I don't think I can hurt anything if I try. I have set up 3 lnb dishes before even though the one I currently have is a 5 lnb.

2. The temp is around 50 and I read in a previous post that the lnb's have gone bad when temperature has become colder. Is it possible my lnb got damaged in the windstorm ?

3. Is there a way to bypass the search for signal when I reset the hr20 so that I can atleast watch what I have recorded ?

I verified that all cables were tight and everything on the dish appeard to be in tact. The only thing I can think of is the dish was moved by the wind. I appreciate any information anyone can provide me.

Thanks...

If your dish was installed on a rooftop make sure it has two additional braces (called monopoles) installed to support the mast in a tripod fashion. Many 5-LNB dishes installed without the extra braces have blown off point in high winds. If your dish still has the bubble level in the top of the mast, check the bubble to see if it is in the middle of the black circle. If not it was the mast that tipped. Try to pull it back into plumb.

Thanks for the responses. My dish is on the side of my house . Got one of my friends to come over and help and the bolts were loose and we repositioned it according to the signal meter on my sat t60 and we were able to get it to 99 and 100 percent signal and tightened the bolts pretty tight and its still very windy and so far things look good. I was worried we didn't hit the high def sats but we got lucky and did and now we have tv again and my wife is happy. I will need to call dtv up and cancel the installer from coming down. Again thanks for the help. This is one awesome forum.

You may still want the installer to come tweak the dish alignment ....

Your T60 cannot see the Ka-band satellites at 99 and 103-deg that provide your MPEG4 HDTV Local Channels, so adjusting the dish using its signal meter may leave you with marginal reception of those satellites. Check the signal readings on the 99 and 103-deg satellites using your HR20 DVR's signal reading menu and be sure they're showing high numbers.

If your dish was dithered correctly during the initial alignment but the az bolts were loose causing the dish to shift in the wind- you should still be okay. Of course you should check the signal on 99 or 103 (depending on which one you're getting in your part of the country) and verify that you are still peaked.

Of course, none of this is a guarantee. For instance, if the monopoles weren't installed on the correct part of the mast according to how the mast is mounted- for your system, it would be the straight "up & down", top-most portion of the mast as opposed to the bent section near the footplate, any shifting done to the mast may cause the monopoles to slide up and down the mast itself. This shifting can bend the collar end of the monopole. When that happens, your monopoles will now be holding the mast in a new position. If you were able to dial back in the signals as high as you say- I don't think that this has occured.

There's not alot of DirecTV training on how exactly to place the monopoles- most of the do's and don'ts have been figured out by trial and error.

I live in NH and we are getting the same windstorm, I am extremely impressed with the AT9's performance with this weather. I have had 0 issues today thus far with wind gusts that are currently exceeding 50 mph. Yesterday it rained almost 2 inches of rain and I experienced 0 drop out.

We had heavy rains and high winds in excess of 45mph and I have not noticed any outages or rain fade.

Thanks, I wish I would have known what peak signal readings on 99 and 103 was before so I would have something to go bye, but I did a check and on 99 my highest reading is 80% and on 103 I am sitting at 97 %. Your right, I probably should still have them come out and tweak it to max reception.
