Odd behavior which I also observed last season:
I use a RadioShack universal to control my HR20-700. When watching Sunday Ticket games, the remote fails to consistently activate trick play functions (rewind, fast forward, pause, etc...).
DirecTV's standard HR20 remote works fine. Even stranger, when I use the standard remote, then the RadioShack remote starts to actually function for awhile for trick plays.
There must be a subtle difference in the IR protocol being used. I get the sense it affects channels where there is interactive content.
