Hi all,

A two mornings ago, I turned my HR20-700 on and was confronted with the "771 Searching for Satellite" on all channels.

I then checked the satellite signals and all were robust (lower 90s to 100).

Then, I went back to the channel and it was working perfectly. All channels back to normal.

This has happened three times since. All I need to do check the satellite signal and the channels magically return.

Anyone seen this before?

Intermittent 90's to nothing can indicate cabling or multiswitch problems (including the multiswitch inside the LNBF head)

Also check both tuners for signal as well. Going to signal strength test walks you up and down the multiswitch. Intermittent failure could indicate just a flakey/loose connection somewhere that interferes with the 13/18 volt signal.

Thanks.

The signal on both tuners is good. I have no other DVRs -- is that the only situation in which I would have a multiswitch? Is there something I can tighten myself?

It did it again this morning, and for curiosity's sake I checked the OTA stations and they came in just fine -- only the channels from the dish are affected.

Again, I checked the signal strength and it worked fine.

I've had a situation similiar to this only I get break/freeze up on HD channels. I go and check the sat. strength, everything is in low 80's and higher, I go back and everything is fine. This happens to me on an almost daily basis. I have a repair scheduled for tomorrow, we'll see what happens.

My situation is weird as well and I've had it happen twice. My HR20 will not tune in high def channels on Tuner 1 but instead gives me 771. Tuner 2 will display both HD and SD channels.

I discovered this when I noticed a blank recording. I started something recording and then pulled the input cable from Tuner 2. That resulted in a 771 on that channel so I put the cable back on and was able to lose the 771. I knew that Tuner 2 was recording at that point and any other channel I would try to watch would be using Tuner 1. With that setup Tuner 1 would only tune in SD channels but HD = 771.

Called D*.....waited on hold listening to Peyton Manning for 15 minutes. CSR was not from around here and seemed confused. Finally he transferred me to Tech Support. Tried to explain the problem to the lady but she kept getting hung up on the fact that I had pulled a wire (for 15 seconds to be certain which tuner was isolated) and kept telling me that it wouldn't pull in channels because of my actions. Finally she asked me to do a RBR but told me I would have to call back in after the reboot. I calmly told her I would prefer to hold the line and not fight through the maze again but she told me "policy" was to end the call afte the reboot (I think she lied). I just went along with her as she seemed to be done with helping me.

Finally after the reboot I called back. First CSR tried to transfer me but I ended up in the wrong department and had to call back in. While waiting on hold I messed with the HR20 and noticed that the RBR had wiped out my 40+ item Prioritizer list. Finally reached tech support and she agreed something was wrong. Reminded me it would be free bacuse of PP and transferred me to PP department to schedule a service call. They are coming 8/19.

It wasn't a horrible scenario and the HR20 is in a rec room that mostly my kids use, but it was time consuming. Total time on the phone was over 1 hour.

Anybody else had a similar Tuner 1 problem?

This apparently is some type of software glitch effecting the HD channels, maybe just the 103(c) derived channels. It seems that causing the receiver to cycle through the 103(c) tp signal strengths under View Signal Strength for the 103(c) satellite and effected tuner brings that tuner back on-line.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that when I get home. :)

I am having this exact problem. We've been recording a lot lately with the Olympics. It seems almost every night we now get the 771. I checked all connections and signal strengths. Everything is snug and the signal strengths were all pretty high. The other thing that I noticed is that the HR20 "thinks" for a while as you change channels and then you get the 771.

Is there any timeline for a software fix?

I didn't try it yet because the tech is coming tonight and I wanted him to see the problem so he can report it back to D*. While he is there though I plan to try the trick and will post the result on Wednesday.

Ok, this is happening every day, 3 - 4 times a day now.

Also, I am now getting blank recordings because of the 771 issue. This never happened before.

Is this maybe a software problem that will be resolved by a future software download?

I can't think of anything else that would have caused this to happen out of the blue.

Ditto here one the 771, and sometimes when I turn on the set, the D* logo isbouncing around on a blank screen - always on a HD channel. If I change the channel up one and then back, everything is normal. I just chalked it up to random upgrades of software when I am not home.
