Trademarks are only protected by category. With DIRECTV's prior use, a TV receiver of some kind would be a conflict. Anything outside of that category is fair game (unless it conflicts with someone else).

For example, McDonalds is a brand of dairy products. Even though that is food it is not a restaurant. Non food usage of the name (such as a garage) would also not conflict. Using the logo or any other unique mark would be a conflict. But a name is harder to protect.
