Streaming service ratings never talk about video quality or other issues!

Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right forum for this question but I'm looking for options for a streaming TV service.

I should start that I have a very reliable Gigabit internet connection and my Apple TV is hardwired to my network so no Wi-Fi issues.

I'm currently using YouTube TV. On paper it's fantastic! A great channel selection for the price, the apps run on most platforms, unlimited DVR recordings (deleted after some set time period) and an OK interface.

In reality it's terrible.
  • The video quality is sometimes great, usually just OK and on a regular basis not so good.
  • On shows where there's a lot of video action it shows a lot of pixilation.
  • Regularly the video stutters, pauses and then continues.
  • I get buffering delays.
  • Recordings regularly either start late or end early and sometimes it just doesn't record at all.
  • When you have an issue with a recording you can send feedback/report the recording. If it's a recently recorded program (like within the past few days) they might be able to fix the start late/end early issues. Otherwise nothing gets fixed.
  • When you contact them, the interface gives the option for them to give you a call back. They never call back. For the chat option, you are never connected to chat. You get a screen saying the issue has been reported and they send an e-mail in the next day or two to check in since the chat got disconnected.
In short, nearly every aspect of this service is horrible.

So I'm looking to switch to something else and there's a ton of options out there but all of the articles I've seen that compare services only talk about channel selection, recording options and price. Nothing about the actual quality of the service.

Long ago I had DirecTV with a dish on my roof. Got fed up with them when their DVRs would break every year or two. Then I have to wait a week or so for the new DVR to arrive and lose all of my recorded shows since DirecTV does not have any way to back up the drive.

But, they now have DirecTV Stream and a DirecTV where you have one of their receivers at each TV but with cloud recording. Sounds good aside from the issue that for me to get BBC World News I need to get a package that's something like $110/month with tons of channels we don't want.

So on to my question, and yes, I do have one.....

Are there any articles or ratings or opinions from others here on the quality of the various streaming services?

Thanks in advance!
Larry.
