Stuck on Start up - any ideas my friends

I had posted last week about a wind issue.

Apparently my first installer did not secure my AT-9 as well as he should have and viola, the first windy day comes and I lose most of the satalites.

Apparently there was a download in Maryland to the HR20 on Friday, and when I checked Friday morning the screen was stuck at 0% on the download screen.

An installer came this morning and realligned and resecured my dish.

I turned on the TV and it looked like the download completed.

I got a screen saying "set up complete, acquiring satalite information, this may take a few minutes" this stayed for about 3 minutes, then a blank screen on my TV.

The blue lights are spinning, but nothing further happens.

I have done two resets, the second one after removing the B-Band converters.

Any suggestions guys / gals?

D* is telling me the box is bad and will try and fed-ex an new one but I'd like to try fixing this one if I'm missing soemthing

TIA!

If you only waited 3 minutes that's not long enough. Mine took about 10 minutes the first time it booted up as well as the first software update I watched it do.

So first give it at least 10 minutes to boot up.
If that doesn't work try and force a software update. I'm not exactly sure of the key sequence but someone else should come along and post it. Or actually it should be in the tips and tricks document at the top of this forum.
Similar to my experience, the box is bad. I'm awaiting my 3rd one now, should come today.

Lights have been spinning about an hour.

Also tried doing a fored download, but I cannot get to the "welcome" screen

Any other suggestions are appreciated

How are you connected to your TV?
HDMI? Try connecting via S-Video and having the unit set to 480i
I tried s-video hookup on mine one day when it booted up funny but that didn't work. I had to hookup the video via RCA jack only before I got it to work that time.

Earl,

Yes - HDMI

I will disconnect, and try the S-Video

Thanks, I will reply after I've tried this

Eddie
You know, mine did that the very first time the tech turned it on Saturday. He had to press the resolution button on the front panel to get it to 1080i. Once he did that, everything was peachy. Connected via component.
Earl - oh boy, I was happy for about 2 minutes.

Connected the S video and it finished set and appeared to be fine!

I then reconnected the HDMI, nothing on that input.

I turned the power off and it will now not come back on

Any other suggestions?

I thought we were so close!

It sounds to my uneducated eyes like an HDMI compatibility issue with your set. Can you connect with the component cables that should've come with your box to see if that works?
OK - unplugged it from the surge protector, and put it right into the wall outlet.

It came back on

Still nothing on the HDHI, but the S-video input went through the same process of acquiring everything from the Satalite and now appears fine.

I'm afraid if I turn the power off, it'll all get lost again

Earl, what do you think?

Unplug the S-Vhs and try and rebot witht he HDMI

Bfore the Satalite issue, HDMI worked perfectly

Unplugging the 120VAC from the surge protector and plugging it right into the wall outlet shouldn't make any difference.

If it's an issue with the HDMI cable I think you should un-plug the HDMI cable, hook the HR20 to the TV using the component video cables and put the HDMI cable in the closet till you read that the HDMI issues are cleared up.

That worked? I will try Composite or S-video or RCA when I get home, never crossed my mind it could have been that.

Well it appears that HDMI will not work with the new download, but S-VHS appears to be ok

Earl, any ideas on how I might be able to get that connections back?

Eddie
If it never worked with HDMI, I would have tried another connection. But since it was fine (until I did a reset) I never suspected it.

Just got off the phone with D* and told them this (my new box is at my house) I told them I would try this when I get home. They said if it works leave it hooked up via componet until they work out HDMI issues and send the new box back to them.
OK guys - this is obviously a compatibility issue with the HDMI port and the latest update.

Everything works fine after a reboot when only the S-VHS cable is used - once we go with HDMI the system freezes.

I have tried this several times so I'm pretty sure.

Hopefully the next download will solve this, at least I know it's not a "bad box"

Eddie
why not use your componet cables?

As far as I am aware S-Video can not pass a 720 or 1080 signal, only componet (R/B/G) and HDMI can.
My Plasma TV only has two component in - I use one for my samsung 360 so I have OTA, and the other for my DVD player.

I could probably sacrifice having the DVD on a standard RCA jack, but would prefer not to.

If this is not resolved by the weekend I guess I won't have much choice

Just get a component video switch box from radio shack, they are like $20.
Or get an A/V receiver that can do component switching. That's what I did as I needed a receiver upgrade anyway. I can now run 3 components into the A/V receiver and use only one component input on the TV leaving with the 2nd on the Tv for a direct hookup should I have something else that needs it.
