STUPID Search!

I was wondering when the next episode(s) of my favorite show THE MENTALIST would be on with all this basketball crap prempting shows. So I tried the so-called Smart Search on my R22. After typing in a few letters it came back with "The Mentalist" (show) so I accepted. It wasted a few seconds and came back with "no matching programs" or something like that.

Huh. Being a "doubting Thomas" ;) I strolled in the other room and did the same search on my R15. Not only did it come back with TWO EPISODES of The Mentalist on TNT, it came up with a NEW episode on my LIL CBS station!

So not only are subscribers' desired commands disappearing (trickplay with the PIG displayed, double dash delete, etc.) the other functions don't work anymore either.

And as a reward, another big price increase. Thanks, DirecTV!

Worked fine & found correct results on my HR24
Resetting your R22 twice within 30-minutes will flush the Guide cache and rebuild the Guide database, solving that problem.
The humorously oxymoronically named Smart Search has been broke for some time.
I have seen this happen many times myself. Yes, "smart search" is definitely broken.

True. It has been broken for a while. I have observed that it is getting worse! At some point they need to get it going in a positive direction.

I could not agree more. The sad part here is that this could also be said about any number of aspects of the HD DVR+. It was a much better device two years ago. I can't bring to mind one single thing (doubleplay and MRV do not apply to me; I couldn't care less) that has been an improvement since the quickpick page, and most of the changes since then have either complicated the UI or have broken something else. Or both.
I would agree with most of those points except for MRV. It's the best feature ever. The rest of the changes I could do without.
My R22 has been behaving the same way. I tried to record Game of Thrones for April 1st yesterday; episodes appeared but not the newest one. Also on new movies no search results will appear even though I can find them in the guide.

It didn't.
Had a Stupid Search moment last night. Was watching Castle and an ad for the new show Scandal came on. Wife said she wanted to try it, so I went to Smart Search and typed in SCANDAL. Nothing! Well not nothing as it had other shows with SCANDAL as part of their name.

Went to the date and time and there it was sitting in the guide as pretty as you please.

So this was a search issue, not a guide data issue as it was in the guide. This was on an HR34.
Doesn't all the data for the guide comes from a 3rd party? Maybe its not the box that is the issue but more from the supplier. Just a thought.

Performing a "Smart Search" for Magic City yields no results, even though it's in the Guide and airing on the 30th of March.
Smart Search does not work most of the time and has not for at least a month and a half.

An example, get weekly movie guide e mail for the week. Put in the movies on the premium channels and they list eight. Maybe two channels come up with the movie the others you put in the movie name and the movie shows up in the search you click on it no movie times or channels are listed and says not available.

You then go to the Guide and they are there, it is not a guide problem, it is a software problem in the new HD GUI software and is has been there since early February. It drives me nuts. If you do a search by type of movie such as Horror, Sci-Fi, etc. it finds the movie and time and channel everytime.

I knew there was a reason why I'm so happy with my R15's....EVERYTHING WORKS!! And I can still do trickplay with the PIG displayed and do a double dash delete and and and and.....
This is so tiresome. It now takes forever (on a 21-100 and a 20-700) after pressing the "list" button for the list to appear, same for the guide. Worse, the guide I prefer to use (pressing the "info" button while highlighting the channel name in the guide), leaves a hole of about a full day 48 hours into the future. My wife and I both miss the PIG in the guide and list. What was a pretty good DVR is much less functional now. What corporate planner decided Directv would lessen churn by crippling these features?

And I have a 25" SD TV sitting in my garage that still works. Would you like buy it?
