While wintering in Florida we are using YouTubeTV. At home in NH we have Comcast Cable TV. I am hoping that I can convince my wife to drop Comcast for streaming with YouTubeTV after this winter experience. YouTubeTV does not have NESN as an available channel. When I called they said that their contract expired with NESN and they have not been able to renew it yet??? If this does not change it will be a black mark in my attempt to go with to YouTubeTV when we get home.

My question is does anyone know if I can stream NESN independent of YTTV?

While I am at it the issue between cable and streaming is the user control interface/remote control. Cable channels have numbers and to change to different channel you can type in the channel number. The streaming interface uses a multiple menu interface that is foreign to my wife and no problem for me. She has been trained for years and years on the cable interface, not so long for the streaming interface. I have decided that YTTV has the closest modern streaming interface cable to try and get her to switch to. DirecTV streaming would be a closer interface but after spending 9 years in an RV seeing America (average 5 months a year on the road) I decided that having put a DirecTV dish on the RV was a mistake and I should have gone with Dish. Thus DirecTV is a no go for me.

Hi, Jim. Welcome to the streaming side of the forum. The shortest answer to your question; YES, you can stream NESN independently through their own NESN360 subscription. It's $30/monthly, but it'll provide you with what you need.

In regards to your interface question; it's entirely relevant and understandable. Steering away from channel numbers is one of the biggest deterrents for those considering streaming. What I would tell you, and it sounds like you get it, it's simply a different system to learn. Give it time, and you adjust. YTTV has options to either adjust channel guides in any customized order that you want, OR to view your most viewed channels at the top of the list. So if there are channels your wife regularly watches, this might be a means to prioritize them at the top so she wouldn't have a lengthy scroll from channel to channel.

Hopefully this helps in some ways.

Thanks for the reply B. Shoe,
The one sport we are not really into is Hockey so 1/2 of NESN is not of as much interest to us. $30 a month is a lot for baseball. But if it was the deal breaker for my wife maybe it's worth it.

Using YTTV in Florida for a month and a half has helped my wife see it in a different light. Yes programming the channel guide has helped. It was a challenge to program however. I got the sequence changed easily on my computer but could not get it activated on my streaming devices??? It turned out I needed to double click on all the moved channels to activate the new menu!!! If I hadn't stumbled on the fix I would still be wanting. Trying to contact customer support was a chore that really did not work.

Since we get internet service through Comcast, switching will involve a new service. Depending on the cost of the new service and the performance desired, it appears that I can save $45 to $70 a month by switching. Also no more calling every 6 months to a year to get Comcast to reduce the cost of service.

I really am not a fan of Cable.

Another option, if you had someone willing and friendly, would be to utilize a friend's provider credentials through their service that does carry NESN, to utilize the NESN service. In full disclosure, that's how I utilize Bally Sports to access my local MLB team.

If you NESN primarily to watch the Sox, MLB.TV is an option too.

Thanks for the ideas. MLB.com is $24.99 a month, or $149.99 a year /12 =$12.50 or single team $129.99 a year /12 = $10.85
A less expensive option for something we do not watch that often.
