Suggestion for keeping people involved in the Forums

There was a thread in the CE forum about DirecTv adding a GUI or documenting hidden functionality after a CE version is done. It was a semi interesting discussion and it was related in a way to CE, because we want to help DirecTv know what should happen to items that are in a CE after they become a national release, so that everyone can use them.

The thread was just closed, stating we should start a new one if we wanted to talk about it. Granted the discussion started with a non-CE feature, 30-second_skip. I guess it should have started with skip-to-tick. It was really a pretty good discussion about how things are rolled out by DirecTv. I can see the moderators not seeing it as being a CE thing though, although it is semi-related.

The problem with just closing a thread is that most people (including me) are not going to bother just creating a new thread after people have been responding to it. It really stops the whole thread and the reason people come to forums. To talk about things related to Sat TV, Dish, DirecTv. Why not just move it to a general thread if you don't think it belongs in the CE forum?

Here is the thread:

The poster makes a good point -- with an ongoing technical discussion that is drifting in an off-topic direction, why not just move the thread instead of closing?
You both make an excellent point and we are discussing the matter.
