As Curt suggested in the Bozo thread, I'm asking for advice.

I have the SWMLine, I've installed the splitter and have the PI hooked up. I can get a new dish (Solid Signal). I just need to know how best to get the darn thing aimed and get a strong signal. The dish is 40' up on my chimney.

I just had a botched installation. The installer didn't have what he needed to do the job. While I understand there are multiple levels bureaucracy where people can drop the ball, I am tired of being told what they can or cannot do or what equipment I can or can't have.

Thanks,

Herb

#1, make sure that the mast is 100% plumb. (Straight up and down)
#2 when mounting to the chimney, check the chimney itself, make sure it is good solid mortar, and use either some very strong band clamps or expansion bolts that will expand in pre drilled holes. the mount will have to handle close to 100 pounds of loading (dish and wind)
#3 get a really good magnetic compass with degree markings

Curt,

The dish is already mounted - I have existing DTV service. It is the old Mpeg2 LNB.
Can I just leave the mast, swap the old dish with the new dish and the new LNB for the old LNB? I'm guessing I need to aim it again for the new sats.

The aiming and searching for a signal is the hard part, especially that high up.

I'd like to actually hire an installer, not through DTV. Someone that will just do what I ask them to do.

the new KA Ku dish uses a larger Diameter Mast, so you need to mount a new mast. I personally do not recommend trying to use an adaptor to get the new dish to mount. I also recommend doing a POLE mount if possible. it is much better than a roof or chimney mount.

Well, this is sounding beyond what I am capable of doing.

Anyone know of a good installer in Tampa?

I've done the all the internal work. I just need the a new dish installed and signal obtained.
