Why is this happening to me?

I buy the best of what DTV has to offer so I can join the rest of the world and get HD. But the gosh darn thing will not record every since I got the last update of oxfa.

Since the last stupid update, I have had no recordings work right or even be available. I get a screen that ask me to delete them. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

I need it fixed or replaced, any ideas on what to do? I understand bugs, but this is rediciouls. Thank GOD I still have a TIVO unit running.......

oxfa is what is on it. Just got done with the recording of Grey's Anatomy and it did'nt work either. What a pile of ..........

For what its worth, it did not record on my DTivo either. I think there was something wrong with the guide data on this one.

Grays anatomy is a rerun. Did you set it to record new shows or both ?

It was set to record new only,but it recorded it but just wouldnt play it.

Now why wouldnt it record the following? Survivor, Dr. Phil, Medium, etc....

I am currently on hold with DTV....

I know that new things need fixed, but this unit has been out for awhile and up until I got the latest update, my one week old unit worked good. Now this.

Cable is sounding better every day to me. JMO.

Yes I did it yesterday and now I am on the phone with DTV. They had me do a reset and enter the 02468 and we are seeing if I got the update. The CS rep said that they should be sending the 108 out now for those who do the 02468. National release is not until the end of December, which I told him I would not wait that long for.

Mine did not receive the upgrade.

I need Earl.....

PS, the DTV guy is nice and patient and is really trying to help. He just had me do a total reset which sucks, but maybe will work.

you do not need earl,,, earl is wrongly taking credit for the window last night, i knew of it right from dtv last week,

That is a bug currently in the system, that is very inconsistant.
Basically it "records it", but then it can't find it when you try to play it back.

It has been significantly improved on in x108...
A new box may "temporarily' solve your issue, but it is a software issue...

Unless you hae the same affiliate... not 100% the same guide data...

So ... I have the following problems (nothing new I guess):

1) Programs are recorded that won't play
2) Programs are recorded that don't play and that ask "do you want to delete ..." immediately when they are selected
3) At least one program was recorded in a way such that the timestamp at the left hand of the orange bar looked something like "-3:47" (yes, negative)
4) I can't play programs while they are being recorded

I just forced an update to 0xfa but it should have been running it already.

Also, I have a dead HR10 sitting next to a dead HR20 beside the TV waiting to go to Fedex tomorrow. The HR10's hard disk died after 2 months and the first HR20 lasted 2 days.

The percentage of programs that I record that have problems is pretty high, 20-40%. I just did the download and a complete reset, and now of course I have to redo about 25 recurring recordings ....

I had problems with programs recorded off of UHD and other HD and SD channels as well as network (MPEG4) channels. In other words, all of them.

I don't suppose new hardware (again) will help (again) will it?

Also, the *$*!&&@( disk drive is obscenely noisy, like an early 90s vintage Maxtor.

And ... finally ... the keys on the remote seem to double-press. But I think that both remotes I've tried did the same thing. This isn't something the receiver can be responsible for, is it?

Lately it seems like I spend more time setting up / resetting my DirecTV DVR than I do using it.

I have had various DirecTV TiVo units over the years. Last Friday I got the HR20-700 and I have exactly the same issues. My recording failure rate is 100% and I see all the above issues. In addition, my trickplay buttons simply don't work unless I do an RBR. Do to screen freezes, playblack issues and remote issues I have done an RBR perhaps 15-20 times since Friday. I have reformatted the hard drive at least twice.

I downloaded 00FA Wednesday evening an then 108 on Wednesday night and got OTA in Arlington, VA. They had no impact on the recording issues. D* is sending me a new unit but I fear it won't make a difference and I will also lose 108 until the next window or national release.

How can this unwatachable bug be a softwre bug when some people's units are barely affected and others are nearly always so? To me that seems like a software/hardware interoperability issue that is related more to the hardware.

And how do you know when your unit is just DOA and needs replacing?

Back to the question about Survivor recording in my local guide. It recorded just fine on my DTV/Tivo unit. Thank God, we kept 2 of them up and running.

I agree Earl that it is a software issue. My heartburn is why can't the software engineers figure this out. Perhaps they should hire some of the guru's @ Tivo to help them out.

I love having high definition and am excited to know that next year I may get up to 100 more channels, but all of that is for nothing, if we can't record any of the shows.

Frustruated and looking for advice in Indianapolis.

Earl says it is possible. Some other Eastern US people reported the same glitch.

Since the problem has been solved, I hope nobody minds the slight thread-hijack.

CBS has said that HD is one of their big things. It's how they're trying to differentiate themselves and elevate their network above others. The CSIs are meticulously filmed with HD in mind, etc.

So why then are The Amazing Race and Survivor not in HD? Of all the things I'd like to see in HD, it would be foreign countries, lush tropical landscapes, Parvati's legs... ;-) You get the point.

Is it simply because the HD cameras are too expensive or otherwise too much of a pain to lug to these remote locations (quickly)?

CBS still hasn't managed to figure out how to broadcast all their NFL games in HD... which are known in advanced, facilities are prewired, and you could (if you wanted to) RENT the cameras for the day's game..

Let alone on a desert island, or running around the globe....

But then again, for those shows, it is the production company that has to do it in HD, before CBS can carry it in HD....

So part of the gripe on those goes to the actual production company of the show, and not the network alone...
