SWM-8 Install Problems
Hey guys! Well I have had my dish setup for about a week now. I have been watching it using just a single tuner with great signal strength on all satellites. Well today my SWM-8 came in the mail. So hook the 4 cables from the dish up to the SWM then run my single cable out of SWM 1. That cable then goes directly into the red SWM port on the power supply. From there it goes directly to my IRD. Well I have tried setting up the SWM on my HR21-700 with no luck. It keeps telling me to check satellite strengths and sorts. I have hit the red button and set the IRD to Slimline 5, Swm, 1 tuner with no BBC. I am stumped. I have checked the voltage right before the SWM and I am getting a nice 29 volts. I am pretty sure the distance between the tv and the SWM is not greater then 200 feet. Do you guys think I could have a bad SWM?

Ya, Sat 1 because that has SWM on it. The reason why I selected 1 tuner is because it was hooked up to only one port.dave29 said:is it hooked to sat in1 on the hr21?

you should have selected 2, but that wouldnt keep it from working. power down the hr21, then power down the power inserter. plug the power inserter back in and then go plug your hr21 back in. see if that helpsdsheli said:Ya, Sat 1 because that has SWM on it. let it power up and see if it works before you go into that menu
And remove the b-band converter if it is still there.

make sure in the sat setup you dual instead of single tuner. The advantage of single wire is that it can utilize both tuners from i cable only....rolou21
Alsl make sure in the sat info page says "SLIMLINE 5 SWM" and the correct s/w version for swm lnb.

Well I finally got the DVR to recognize the satellites. When the DVR restarts it downloads the satellite info but when the tv comes one it acts as if only one tuner is enabled. Is this because the other is tuner is downloading the guide or do I have a bad SWM-8?

what do the signal levels show for both tuners?
Well I always have 98% on the first tuner. When I setup the DVR for swm it shows 98% from both tuners. Then when I click done on the sat setup I get the 771 searching for satellite. So I hit the red button on the front of the DVR. It restarts and downloads the guide then the live tv comes on acting like a 1 tuner unit. So I got to sat setup and I see signal on just the first tuner but the setup says simline-5, SWM, Dual tuner. Could this because I was using it with one tuner before I installed SWM?

Try a hard reset, unplugging the unit from ac power. Also are you absolutely sure you did not hook the power inserter backwards?

wouldn't hurt to do both.. just make sure you plug in the PI before the reciever
Since I am only receiving signal on Tuner 1 do you guys think I could have a problem with my HR21-700?

Same problem here, no fix found yet, will let you know if I get it working.
