Hey install expert dudes and dudets! :)

Trying to make sure I'm not messing up here... I currently have 6 rcvrs in the house and 5 of them are DVR's. Later this week, the installers are going to replace my old multi-switch with an SWM. My goal is to only have to use one cable on each of the DVR's as that's all that's available in some of the rooms. All the DVR's are (or will be) HR-2x series and the rcvr is an R-15.

I THINK this should work and be a no brainer. But am I missing anything?

Thanks!!

A single SWM is limited to 8 tuners which would be only 4 DVRs

Assuming this is an SWM8 module being installed, wouldn't he still be able to use the 3 legacy ports (say for an HR2x that has two runs to it, and also to the R15)? Given that he is using 11 tuners total, it sounds like an SWM8 would just fit the bill.

As posted: NO Ka-Lo channels pass through the legacy ports. Ka-Hi do though.

So... R-15 to the legacy ports, does that leave me enough for two tuners in 5 DVR's or will I need to buy a 2nd SWM and daisy chain it?

Thanks!!
You can't daisy chain SWMs. You have to put them in parallel with 4 power passing splitters.

Also keep in mind that on the swm ports your receivers will have to be D12, R16, H20, HR20 or newer. Anything thats not DirecTv branded or is a lower model number that those listed above will NOT work on a SWM port. They will work on the legacy ports.

Is your equipment signature current, if so, only your HR20s will work with a SWM. Everything else won't.

Sigs on the verge of being out of date... all HD DVR's will be HR2x series. Still intend to use the R15, but apparently, on the legacy ports.

You could probably get away with connecting a SWM to 4 of the outputs from a WB68. Although some have said this won't work (and I don't know why not), others have reported success. This would eliminate the need for the 4 splitters.

Thanks all.... based on past experience, I have no faith that the Ironwood guy would have come up with this.
Did they already confirm that they are bringing the SWM8 or are you supplying it?

I assume you are providing your own SWM-8, as installers do not have them available (and have probably never seen one, or even heard of one). The only SWM hardware they do have available is the SWM LNB for the Slimline, which has no legacy support, is not expandable, and supports up to 8 SWM-compatible tuners only.
