SWM Multi-switch Off Air Input

Hello. I would like to use a Multi-switch with SWM. I would like to use the Off Air input for my cable line from Metrocast. I would like to use the QAM channels from cable on this input. Will this be able to work with my QAM channels if I plug it into a Direct TV Receiver or directly into my TV?

QAM probably will not work. QAM is not OTA.

But SWM8 features list the following, "Built-in diplexer automatically combines off-air signals with DIRECTV satellite signals onto a single wire allowing cable, antenna, OTA HD, and most CCTV systems signals to travel on the same single wire."

WHat do you think?

Closed Circuit TV is private broadcast not cable

But it does say cable also.

probably mean the old Analog cable which is simply a bunch of channels at standard frequencies.

So do you think QAM would work?

I personally do not think it will
It will work provided you have a TV that has a digital QAM tuner. Some TVs only have ATSC digital tuners but some have both ATSC and QAM tuners.

Check your manual for the specifications.

I do have a QAM Tuner, I am currently using it right now to watch the convention on 11-2.

Maybe I should start a poll to see who thinks it will work....?
As long as the QAM frequencies are both outside of the D* SWM FTM "channels" and within the pass-band of the diplexer, it should work.

YMMV...it will depend on what is used by the various cable systems.
I think it will work. Kansas Zephyr hit the key point - as long as the QAM frequencies are outside of the SWM channels.

some people have had luck with QAM, some have not. like kansas zephyr said, it depends on the frequencies used. analog cabke usually works, but QAM is hit and miss

How can you use QAM to watch 11-2? All dashes are ATSC channels, and ATSC is 8VSB, not QAM. Cable is QAM, but doesn't use - channels.

Yes, it does. It's ATSC that's QAM modulated instead of 8VSB modulated.
