I had an installer come out (private contractor) last friday and installed a SWM system. The new apartment i moved into already had the slimline 3lnb dish setup on it so all the installer had to do what fish coax thru my addic to a 4 output swm splitter. Using two outputs on it one to my HR20-700 in my living room the other to my HR21-700 in my bedroom.
The lines he used ...........for the bedroom he fished a new coax down inside the wall to a wall plate he installed. The 2nd for the living room's hr20-700 he used an existing comcast coax that was already fished down the wall. He just disonnected that run from the comcast splitter in the addic and put it onto one of the outputs on the SWM splitter.
The first nite the install was done the signal strengths on my hr20-700 were in the 80's some in the upper 70's (and they flucuate alot) and the installer couldnt figure it out so he was going to come back the next day to try and fix it. The bedroom hr21-700 all signals come in 95-100 and hold steady.
That nite it was driving me nuts so i thought i could figure it out myself. I did some research online and read the closer u have your Power Inserter to the dish the better. He put the PI on the run to the living room which is like 1/4 longer than the one he ran into the bedroom so i moved the PI into the bedroom and boom issue fixed. HR20-700 signals jumped up to the mid 90's and held strong for 2 days.
Then last nite i was checking the signals on my hr20 and found it reverted back to the strengths they were after the installer left friday nite. I thought at first it was the existing comcast cable run he used but then i attached brand new rg6 coax from the splitter into my hr20 and at first the signals came in.....in the upper 90's but as i sat there and watch 5 minutes later the signals degraded and were back in the upper 70's and 80's.
I'm thinking these possiblities. If anyone has anymore feedback i'd appreciate it. 1: HR20-700 tuners are bad. 2: SWM splitter is bad 3: Power inserter isnt the greatest or might be defective (it's the model PI-21).
So today i'm going to do a few tests. I'm going to put the hr21-700 that's in the bedroom and receiving great signals onto the run in the living room and see what i get on that receiver. If the signals are good i guess the dvr in the living room's tuners are going bad. If signals are bad on my 2nd receiver then i'm going to move onto the next step.
I got a new power inserter from solid signal and it's due to arrive today i'm going to put that on and see if that fixes the issue.
Lastly to see if it's a splitter issue i'm going to take the run in the addic from the satellite and run it directly to my hr20-700 (of course with the power inserter attached).
I've tried calling the installer several times today but i guess with the holiday on hand people arent working so for now i'm going to try and fix this issue myself.
