We're new to directv and want to get a setup for tailgating. We just want sd so we're going to use a D12-300. Anyone have any suggestions on type of dish, stand, and anything else you can think of?

Dish - 18" round. Stand - almost anything, I mounted the mast on a piece of pressed board. Only problem with that is you need to find flat ground. Most any tripod should let you adjust for a vertical mast.

Here is an other option:

It's a very compact 9in dish that I mount on an ajustable plat form on the roof of the suv! A little harder to aim than an 18 in, but still only takes a minute or two!
