I got off the phone with D* after ordering another HR-2x. I got one free a couple months ago and the best they would give me (after 3 rounds of CSR roulette) was $99 and free shipping.

I figured that my HDVR2 was $435 on sale 5 years ago, my HR10 was $899 3/4 (I forget) years ago and my SD-DVR80 was $100 around that same time. Then my first HR21 was free. So I am OK with $100. I know people have gotten better deals but if the buyer is happy, isn't that all that matters... I digress.

The CSR talked me through the whole thing and put me on hold for 7 minutes to set it up. And I didn't have my laptop out at the time. She expalined, 199 fee plus tax, minus 100 credit plus tax plus 19.95 shipping , minus 19.95 spiing credit. Total 104.99.

GREAT!

A couple hours later, I hopped online and looked at my account to double check. Total: 209.99
Whisky, Tango, Foxtrot.

I call customer service... it's 10:15. Closed. I call the next day. An equally nice lady is helping me out.

Yes.
Yes.
Yes. It says it all here in the notes. She just didn't do the second credit.

Great.

She can cancel it and we can start over.

great.

But it's already in queue to ship.

Great.

She's just going to add the credit after the fact...

GREAT!

...and it should appear on my account within 7 business days.

great

Should I add a poll to this to guess how many times I am going to have to call back to get my $100 credit?

Like I said in the title, it's like getting Ric Rolled. I am offered a deal that I am very comfortable with and then BAM... not what I signed up for.

Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you go...:nono:

1. I have no idea who Ric Rolled is.
2. I'm confident you'll get the credit (eventually), so I'm not sure if it's the same as getting something you didn't sign up for.

Why the roll eyes?

Too much trash on youtube to randomly click on links in forums, especially when I'm working or home with my kids (which is the case right now - he's on my lap).

Its simple MTV stuff.... I didn't know what he was talking about either until I clicked the link - its pretty funny (and you would recognize it if you saw the video)! And should be appropriate for any age!

Methinks spartanstew would rather have a written definition:

And so from that wonderful lexicographical epistle of the parlance of our times "The Urban Dictionary": http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ric+rolled

ric rolled

The act in which a person on a message board or something similar posts the Rick Roll video and fooling the other board members to open it thinking it is something completely different.

The song in the video is by the artist Rick Astley.

Thanks. The point is that I wouldn't have known until clicking on it (which by then might have been too late).

Thanks for that too. I did finally click on the link and now it's my turn to use the emoticons.

I guess I don't get it (the video itself or why people would want to trick others into seeing it). I guess I'm not the target demographic.

I'm a 68 year old farmer.

Maybe you'll learn to be polite when you get older.

1. I didn't ask any questions.
2. I told ptalbot that I appreciated the link.
3. You are the one that merely posted a "roll eyes" emoticon.
4. I then explained why I don't visit links.
5. You replied insinuating I'm not polite and with a directive (which was wrong).

So, which one of use needs to learn to be polite again?

Might be time to get out of the heat.

Back on topic:

beejpowers, why does it seem out of line that credits take longer to post than charges? Credits are giving stuff away. I assume they have to be approved by management, otherwise the CSRs run the company.

She said "up to 7 days". I don't think this is out of line at all. It might be one day. It might be two days. You are expecting the worst. In any case, it will be within the same billing cycle. What skin is this off your nose?

Now, if in 8 days, you have to call back to get the credit to post, you have a complaint.

For some reason it was mis-billed. Everyone was polite and efficient about it. You didn't have to argue to get the credit or anything. "It says it all here in the notes."

As tcusca00 said, mistakes happen. It seems like they are cleaning them up in an appropriate manner.

And as a guy who knows what Ric Rolled is, I don't think you are getting the runaround and being defrauded at all. That is the essence of being ric rolled.

Oh, I don't know, maybe Redlinetire is insulted by the little comments you put at the end of your posts:

hope your credit is applied but the credit should be applied immediately, or so is has been for me.
Yes, if you check your account info on the D* website, the changes are just about real time.

So if the credit isn't there now, it won't be. Call them back.

My story of D* account woes started last year, and took 9 months to resolve.

When I got my HR20/H20, I was promised a $10 credit per month for a year. I checked my bill online after the first month (July), and there was my credit, so all was good.

I didn't check my bill again until Nov. (my bad!) It was then that I discovered that the credit was only applied to that one month. I called, credit was put back on. Of course now I learned my lesson, so I checked my bill every month. Sure enough, after one month, the credit dropped off again.

So I called back again (now Jan.), I complained a bit more (luckily the CSRs take good notes), and my case was escalated to a 'billing specialist'. I got a call back a week later informing me that all was well and would I like three months free HBO? Sure. I double-checked online, and there was a $10 credit on my account, so I figured this must be it. And for one more month it was.

But the March bill didn't show the credit. I called back and immediately asked for a supervisor. I was on hold for 15 minutes and got dropped. Called back, not happy at all, and said I would not be hanging up the phone until somebody give me my the remaining $80 credit in one lump sum. After talking to two people who said "It can't be done." I finally got through to someone who had a clue, and issued the $80 credit, which I immediately confirmed online.

A learning experience.

It doesn't. I was part of a study in college that proved it. They think it's due to my metabolism or the way my digestive process works.
