1st - Fail Safe - Excellent Cold War Movie
3rd - Mystery of the Wax Museum - Notable for the fact that this is one of the few surviving two-color print films
6th - The FBI Story - Pet favorite James Stewart feel-good movie about the FBI
14th - The Mouse That Roared - Comedy about a country who accidentally wins a war against the United States
18th - Cinerama evening
25th - All The King's Men - Story of a corrupt politician
26th - All The President's Men

Tuesday, Oct 2nd - Back to back, the Marx Brothers, Night At The Opera and Day At The Races.

Wednesday, Oct 3rd - The original and still best Night Of The Living Dead by George Romero (1968).

Sunday, Oct 14th - Back to back to back to back: My Fair Lady/The Mouse That Roared/Jason And The Argonauts/The Dirty Dozen. Now there's some required TV watching and such a varied mix. It starts with maybe the best film adaptation of a musical followed by a screwball comedy, with next a cheesy action/adventure film containing great Ray Harryhausen stop-motion effects and a Bernard Hermann score, topped off by a cool WWII movie with an all-star cast fighting a bunch of evil Nazis. Who could ask for anything more?

Thursday, Oct. 25th - North By Northwest.

Friday, Oct. 26th - Seven Days In May. The other night I woke up at about 1 AM, having fallen asleep on the couch. Before I went to bed, I scanned the Guide and found out Seven Days In May would be on TCM in an hour. Bingo! I set it to record and I just watched it last night. It was a remarkable transfer, so close to true HD that I can't imagine anybody complaining. And the movie still remains a taut political thriller, full of intrigue and great performances. I'd forgotten how good Ava Gardner was in this movie. In a small role, she cleans up. Her opening scene has her playing a drunk who is still in complete control of herself. That is a tough trick for any actor to pull off and she does it perfectly.

Halloween, Oct 31st - Would you expect anything less than Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Mummy and The Invisible Man?

October must also feature Spencer Tracy on TCM. They have multiple marathons of his movies, with one night showing a half a dozen Tracy/Hepburn movies in a row. It's topped of on Monday, Oct. 29th with Inherit The Wind/Judgement At Nuremberg/Guess Who's Coming To Dinner?/It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
