I recently e-mailed Directv about adding my AVR's remote control codes to their of remotes that can be programmed to the HR24, and here is their response.

Thank you for your suggestion to add the "Emotiva Model: UMC-1" preamp/processor to the list of remote audio equipment control codes for our HD DVR receiver.

While we welcome subscriber feedback regarding our existing products and services, we do not accept and will not review any unsolicited proposals or submissions. Unsolicited proposals and submissions include creative or technical ideas, concepts or suggestions for any products, or services. Be assured that DIRECTV is always reviewing our options and continues to develop equipment enhancements to make sure we bring you the best possible TV experience

Now that is really putting the customer first.
When you make a suggestion, it is possible that you then would want to profit from the suggestion. For this reason they pop back with the standard boiler plate answer.

If you would have worded it differently and Asked them if they thought they might add the code for this device in the near future the answer probably would have been quite different.

Yeah, I'd think the majority of people using higher end equipment like that generally don't use the stock remote.

Pretty much the standard response of companies regarding unsolicited submissions for the reasons stated above. It has nothing to do with customer service. It has everything to do with covering their ass.

There are enough people on this board either connected directly with DirecTV or with strong unofficial connections to get your suggestion a review. I'd PM one of them instead.
