The Sixth week for the NFL is upon us. And.... The price of NFL Sunday Ticket, plus the collapse of our economy over the last few weeks has forced me away from even considering the over inflated price to be a part of the NFL and my favorite team. Because of the way things are, I won't even be buying into this product at the midway point of the season. This economy is so poor right now that I'm holding on to my dollars more. And the Ticket is one area that I now have no problem letting go.

Is anyone else being forced to reevaluate where you are at with the ticket because of our economy? As you look forward to next year, if things stay as they are, will you be purchasing this product again at its current price? I can safely say, I won't be.

Unless they come off the $100 to get HD, I'm done!

I can say that I will be for sure getting Sunday Ticket and SuperFan this time next year. This is to awsome getting to watch any and all games I want. This is my first year having it and I love it. I would not trade it for anything. The alternative is I would get Chiefs and Rams games. No thanks. Sunday Ticket is the way to go.

I don't see how the economy would affect anyone's decision on something like television, unless they are on a fixed income, living off of a retirement plan that just lost 20% of its value or something.

This is America, don't mess with the TV.

I'm in a state with 9% unemployment.

LOTS of people cutting back. And believe it or not, some people even put paid TV into that equation.

I'll subscribe every year b/c I want to choose who I watch play. If money is an issue, then try saving a little bit each month. What's it cost with SF, $350-$375? Set aside about $8 a week and in a year you'll have about $400...there's your ST & SF.

I would have a real hard time spending 350-375 for nfl s.t. Currnetly in the Buffalo Market, we get 1-2 games on both cbs and fox on Sunday, plus the sunday night games on nbc, the monday night espn, and come november the thursday night game on nfl network, leading into the saturday coverage on cbs and fox in december after the college regular season is over. With all the highlight shows and the expanded coverage cbs and fox provides after the regular scheduled game is over, moving to game that are in the final minutes.....why do you find the need to pay for other games...(Unless you are transplanted from those areas)???

If the game you didn't get to see was any good, it will be shown on the nfl network as one of the replay games.

Still cheaper than actually going to the stadium. So it all depends how you look at it. If I like to watch the Raiders and I live in Florida - what real options are there ? They dont show west coast games here and I am not going to fly to Oakland....

maybe not the ideal place to post, but you guys would know, one of the lame excuses D* has for the greyed out Centre ice situation is you can't record centre ice games just like you can't record ST games, Is this true, I have no desire to get ST, but just asking. Thanks

my usual schpeel:

problems without the ticket:
1 - cant watch your favorite team every week thats isnt in your home town....ok u mentioned that.
2 - getting stuck watching the home town team when they are 3-8 instead of another good game that is then blacked out.
3 - cant watch other games that u may have $$ on.
4 - only 1 game to watch at either 1:00 or 4:15....ugg.
5 - in ny because of giants & jets there are multiple sunday afternoons of only 2 games.
6 - cbs/fox "flex block" 5 good games each so they will not move to primetime & u may not see them.

- as far as u said about NFLN replaying the game....i like watching before i know the result.
- it only costs me $249 this year as a renew.
- i (along with alot of others) got superfan free.

Some people are fans of particular teams, some are fans of the NFL and football as a whole. For example I like watching college players develop, regardless of what team they ended up on. That's why, at least for me.

The answer to this question probably depends on how much you make and how you live your life. I used to work in cellular sales. I had people ask me if they should buy a particular cell phone or pay their rent that month. That is not a fun question to be asked. And yes, it happened a couple of times a month and typically came from a woman with 4 or 5 young children attached at the hip. We live in a twisted country where cell phones and football are chosen over food and shelter.

So, to answer the OP's question, you will find nothing but respect coming from this direction when it comes to choosing more important things to spend your money on than NFLST. Can you imagine having to tell one of your children that you didn't save up enough money for them to go to the college of their choice because you purchased NFLST with Superfan for the last 18 years?

With the economy on the downside, especially here in Michigan, its not surprising to see people cutting back. My wife and I have cut back a little bit. We don't go out to eat as much as we used to. We also don't drive out to see our parents as often as we used to. We cut out extra trips entirely. We did only one vacation this year away from home.

That being said, some people have really had to tighten their belts and thats fine. It all comes down to what your budget is and what is important. I know some people who think that their premium channels are more important than that starbucks coffee every morning. I know others who think Starbucks is more important. The key here is.....are you happy with your decision?

Those people who have a budget and WANT to have NFL Sunday ticket will make the effort to keep it. Those that think its less important won't keep it. Nothing wrong with either decision. Venting about it on a public forum really just brings people out who are struggling with the same decision.

I can see your point, however being a hockey fan first, I feel the NHLCI package is a better value and will put my $$$ there first.....plus I have no choice being married to a canadian whom is a dire hard leaf fan and must see her team lose every game:hurah:

I think it would be smart for Directv and the NFL to offer a fan a chance to watch only the team he is interested in for half the price. I think they would get more subscribers this way as most people only care about watching their team play and with the lower cost won't think about it as much and will just order it. As for the others, they could still get the full package at the full price.

funny thing is I just jumped on th HD bandwagon this season September 9th 08 to be exact. So from 9/9 to 9/30 I had the 3LNB because Direct TV couldnt give me a more timely appointment to get the 5LNB & slimline dish installed... For a few weeks I was stuck watching the remaining MPEG2 channels on the channel 70's & 80 ranges, i began to watch the bikini shows on HDnet channels and was beginning to like them!!! how sad is that!!!.. so sad that I went to my cable company here in NYC..picked up a box and enjoyed 33 more HD channels while i waited for direct TV to flip the dish..This weekend 10/11 I will go back to return their box!!!

And because the tech was running late (2 and 1/2 hours to be exact/ my appt was 8am-12 showed up quarter to 2pm) I called into give a piece of my mind to Direct TV, and called Halstedt and its the reason I got my bill and said HD charge for NFL Ticket was WIPED, and they gave me a free month my bill reflects a zero balance due. Cool I'll have enough to pay cable for the 1 month of service!! But I can only imagine and cringe on how much Sunday Ticket/Superfan and HD tier for the games will whallop my bill next season!!! I cringe at the thought of getting hit in the summer for the ticket!!!

As an avid Fantasy football player, the sunday ticket is a must..game on everyone

ha ha my original post had my HD arrival nxt year..09 haha thanks I fixed it ..
