It was excellent. It was 2hrs with commercials, but went at a great pace and didn't seem like it was long.

Agree. It's not many commercialed programs that make it to my EHD, but this one was good enough to get archived.

Episode 2 did not disappoint.

Mr. Carnegie builds a steel empire in order to construct a bridge across the Mississippi. Mr. Frick runs a bloddy show while Mr. Carnegie buries his head in European sand.

Must see stuff.

Wonderful series. The only negative aspect is something endemic in ALL Hisotry Channel specials - the padding that they use to stretch the material.

When you're coming back from commercial, I don't need the first two minutes being a recap of the last 7 minute segment.

I have been reminded that Frick is my third cousin, 5 times removed. However since he neglected to make provisions for my arrival in his will, I still don't like him.

According to Wiki, art and furniture are part of the collection (not to mention his mansion). But even this largess to the arts has failed to stanch his reputation for brutality and thuggery in business. So successful, yet so reviled.

I wonder how much of that was abetted by Carnegie's tacitness?

dj is right. I hate the padding as well. Takes a little away from an otherwise-excellent production.

Anyone see the faint horizontal lines that sometimes are quite noticeable? They look like the screen used when a movie wants to "show" a TV set broadcast.
PQ is just not that good even without the lines, though perhaps VOD makes the difference.

The one thing I have really enjoyed with this show is the PQ. I noticed from the very beginning of Ep1 that PQ was excellent. Maybe, as you say, VOD is making the difference. Viewing it on its regular channel has been a great experience - for me anyway.

Ah, good to know. I watched another which I downloaded and it was better, but still not good.
I will be watching the rest on regular recording.
In any event, it's interesting enough to watch regardless.

They are definitely worth a watch. I enjoyed theme thoroughly and learned so much from the first few episodes. I still need to watch Carnegie and JP Morgan episodes.
