Any opinions or reviews about this show? I think it's so new that they are going to air 5 shows tomorrow night to catch people up? I was thinking about checking it out or is it a waste of time? I don't get into original programming other than movies.

Speaking of movies the original movie called Point of Origin really sucked and is a waste of time.

What I'd like to know if the show The Wire is trashy or not?
Also, is there too much bad black inner-city culture in it like a lot of rap music and other filth or is it good to watch?

Thanks.

Also there seems to be a lot of Stargates on Showtime tomorrow night. What's that about? I don't have Showtime but was thinking about getting it so I can watch about a dozen movies that I'd like to see like Along Came a Spider and others then dump it.

Well, as you seem to have heard it is a matter of taste as to thecontent but IMO The Wire is the best new original series on in terms of the intelligence & reality of the story line as well as the overall production, casting, etc. I'm really enjoying the development of the story "arc."

Believe me, you didn't miss anything if you missed Along Came A Spider. Absolutely one of the dumbest thrillers to come along. Once you come to the "surprise" twist you realise that practically nothing leading up to it makes any real sense. :shrug:

I enjoyed it and liked it a lot. I think this was from a book and no movie can do a book justice.

I just tuned in about 5 minutes ago. The third word in this eposode was the F word. The F word was repeated about 4 more times in the next 5 minutes, not counting the crap in a rap song being played in the background. Why do they feel this is necessary? Don't tell me it is reality as I watch television for non reality. I'll give it another 10 minutes and then I am gone if the trend continues (back to The Practice reruns, another show going down the drain lately). They are losing (not loosing) me as a viewer of this series. Goodbye "Wire". Typical HBO CRAP. :(

The only complaint I have about this show is the gratuitus use of the F bomb in places where it is completely inappropriate. The story and production values are very good, but I stopped watching it because of the unnecessary use of language. Deputy Cheif of Police to Police Captain "This F'ing case the the mosr f'ed up thing I've ever f'ing seen. What are the mother f'ing detectives f'ing thinking. You f'ing fix this sh.. or I'm f'ing going to f you up the a.. with an f'ing {CLICK!}

Not an exact quote, but exactly why I stopped the playback and erased the show and found something else to watch. I gave it 4 episodes before the gratuitus use of languag just got to me. I'm not oposed to the use of "real world" language. But I have to tell you, in 23 years in the work force, I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I've heard "foul" language from a "boss" to a subordinate. Two of those times the boss was later reprimanded for using "language". And between piers I have heard language used more often. But with the exception of a factory with more turnovers than a busy bakery, if anyone were to talk at work the way these cops do, they would have been at least reprimanded. It is not something that is generally accepted.

It doesn't bother me when the drug dealers are doing it on "The Wire" or when Tony Soprano talks to Paulie that way on "The Sopronos" because it is in character. That is the way these people talk (or at least the stereotypes we've become accustomed to). It bugs the living daylights out of me when language is used just because it can.

See ya
Tony

Well, last night it was the third word into the program. No plot had developed, just the F word right out of the gate, and it continued on a regular basis for the next 10 minutes until I left the show. Totally unnecessary.

Well, that's why I said it's a matter of taste. As a U.S. Navy veteran I'm pretty immune to that kind of language altho I don't use or experience it much in my own daily life. Nevertheless, I don't think it's unrealistic in the context of the program.

I still think that the plot & scripting of the show is unusually intelligent for TV and the characters & casting are pretty good, too. Just my opinion.
