I am thinking about installing a dish 1000.2 in hawaii, what is good and reliable site to use, for dish pointing. I used dishpointer.com and came up with coordinates in my area for the folllowing specifications

Satellite: Dish 1000.2 (110W, 119W, 129W)
Elevation: 43.2°
Azimuth (true): 114.8°
Azimuth (magn.): 104.9°

I will keep those posted as if I have any luck getting a 1000.2 working out here in Hawaii, but just want to make sure what is good reliable site to use for dish pointing.

I don't know what type dishes they use in Hawaii, but I believe almost all the programing there is on 119/110 and may be spot beamed. The bigger dish may help, I would think a 1000.4 with WA using just 119/110 may be better. I am interested to hear what happens as well as what Dish does.

I'm guessing the 1000.2 will not work in Hawaii, for the same reason the 500 does not work in HI; namely the longitudinal distance between 110 and 119 (and 129) is too far at Hawaii's latitude (21 N) to resolve more than one orbital slot. The twin LNB for 500 is designed for CONUS latitudes (30 N and above) where the longitudinal distance between orbital slots is smaller.

There are 2 versions of the Hawaiian D500- one that houses separate dual LNBs for 119/129 and another that houses separate LNBs for 110/119. Either way you would need a wing dish (24") to cover the third orbital slot. The popular way for now is the dual 119/129 since 110 is tougher to receive (very low elevation); so a dedicated 110 wing dish is recommended.

Hawaii service locations may require a second or "wing" dish to pick up all three orbitals, and channels properly. The angle of these two dishes will actually be different in this type of installation. Your spot beams come across all three orbitals. Running only 110/119 on the 100.2 will leave 129 out of the picture. One of the orbitals will have to be picked up on the LNBF on the "wing" Dish to get all available channels in HI.

Additionally, some channels were moved on Aug 1,2012 from 110 or 129 orbital to 119 or 129, depending on the channel. This move was needed to improve signal for these channels.

Any idea of why 119 xpndr 7 is so weak here in Hawaii? It shows as 40 signal strength on my vip622 whereas most other xpndrs show in 60's and spotbeams show in 70's. A little bit of weather and Monday Night Football in HD starts to block up.
