Well, I am getting pretty tired of my two HR23's freezing and rebooting several times a day the last few weeks so I am thinking of going to Dish and give them a try. I am currently out of contract since February of this year. I called DTV a few weeks ago and asked what they would do to try to keep me as a customer. Their response at the time was very little. Said that for me to get Whole Home DVR it would cost me $400. Wha?! Don't think so. But I did get $18 in credits for a year, after $25 in credits had dropped off my account. I have 2 HR23's, a standard def DVR, and 2 standard def boxes. I now have HDTV's in 4 rooms, so I was looking to upgrade to more HD boxes anyway. But $400? Don't think so.
Anyway, I called back again just now and was offered a pretty good deal this time. They would give me an HR34 for $100 (normally he said it was $400?!), and 2 HD boxes to upgrade all my boxes to HD. So I would keep the 2 HR23's I currently have (hopefully the tech can fix the freezing), the new HR34, and 2 additional HD boxes...and Whole Home DVR set up...for a total of $150. My monthly bill would increase by $3 for the Whole Home DVR fee, which would put me at just over $100 a month. This deal seems pretty darn good. I don't really want to switch because Dish is more apt to drop channels than DTV, and I am a big Breaking Bad fan so no AMC still over at Dish would hurt. So this is probably good enough to keep me on. I pushed to have it all done for free, saying that Dish would set me up with the Hopper/Joey system for free. But they wouldn't go that far. The 5 tuner HR34 seems like a better deal than a one Hopper system with Dish anyway. And Dish would charge for an extra Hopper to get more tuners. Only bad thing here of course is it would put me back in another 2 year contract. But those can't really be avoided on either side.
What do you guys think of this deal?
