A friend of mine wanted the picture to fill the whole screen even if it is in SD, so I went through every on-screen instruction and nowhere can I find to leave the HD channels in its true 16:9 format. Once I set the box to show SD channels "stretched", all channels including the HD are stretched as well. Goes to show how much I take DirecTV for granted!!
She LOVES Time Warner's NewsChannel 10 and can't live without.RobertE said:What you should have done is have her switch to DirecTv instead.
Well, she's got that cheap Westinghouse. I blame the cable box... not the TV.davring said:Depending on the TV there may be a setting similar to some Sony sets called "normal wide" which should fill the screen(stretch) but still display HD properly.
I set up my mother in law over a year ago with HD and TWC. Make sure the TV is set to natural before playing with the cable box.HDTVFreak07 said:A friend of mine just got a new HDTV set. My point is, DirecTV is WAY better compared to Time Warner Cable.Yes616 said:I set up my mother in law over a year ago with HD and TWC. Make sure the TV is set to natural before playing with the cable box.
Why are you posting this here? It belongs in the cable area. You will find better answers to the problem.
I just switch from Terrible Warner Cable I hated it from sept of last year till about 2 months ago when I got D*!HDTVFreak07 said:My point is, DirecTV is WAY better compared to Time Warner Cable.
I have a westy 32 lcd and the wife thinks its the best pic in the house. Personally its good but the sammy dlp and lcds are betterHDTVFreak07 said:Well, she's got that cheap Westinghouse. I blame the cable box... not the TV.
i have time warner cable SA8300HD box with the latest software. If I go to an SD channel and tell it to "stretch" then go to an HD channel and tell it to show "normal" then all HD channels stay normal and all SD channels are stretched. you may just have a bad box. is her box the SA8300 DVR?HDTVFreak07 said:A friend of mine just got a new HDTV set. youre right greg. thats one thing the stupid HR20 and HR21 wont do that the SA8300 will is let you stretch or zoom and HD channel. in fact, the box will not change an HD picture at all..at least with the latest softwares....hopefully theyll add it to newer software releases. I have to use my TVs screen size button to mess with the picture.GregLee said:The TWC SA8300HD, unlike the D* boxes, can stretch or crop an HD picture. This is a feature, not a bug. It can give you a 16x9 HD picture when you're viewing an HD channel which has added bars to SD program material. If you do want your SD stretched and don't want your HD stretched, you can just leave your TV in charge of the stretching. There is lots to complain about the TWC DVR, heaven knows, but this is one of the very few things it does better.
This is very true. I bought a Panasonic 50 Plasma a few years ago and you can't alter the aspect ratio on the HD channels (newer models do allow it). The Samsung that I bought a year ago has a setting called "Wide Fit" that does allow you to fill the screen on HD channels.davring said:Depending on the TV there may be a setting similar to some Sony sets called "normal wide" which should fill the screen(stretch) but still display HD properly.
