Hey Guys,

I have the Time Warner cable guy coming tomorrow at 8am to install cable. I will be putting D* on hold. How easy should this install be for the installer? Since D* is using the in wall wiring for cable i imagine he just needs to unplug a few cables?

I will be taking pics of how everything is connected before he does anything to compare.

My current D* setup is SWM system with 2 HD-DVR, 1 HD, 5 standard receivers.

All he has to do is connect the cable to the input of the DirecTv splitter of your SWM system, and direct swap your Directv boxes for cable boxes and remove the power inserter. Should not have to do anything except run the cable from the pole to the location where the splitter is. He will probably replace the splitter tho, since its probably not on his approved splitter list.

Thanks for the info.

The install went ok on 10/06/12. Nice guy, hooked up all the rooms on his work order plus 2 more for just connections to the TV. He told me he couldn't do more without a booster which would cost $15 for each additional room.

I come to find out the other day that the installer took the SWIM switch and splitter i had. i tried to contact him via e-mail and phone from his web site. So far no response on the e-mail and phone number is no longer working.

What should i do if i don't hear back? I was thinking of calling Time Warner and asking if they could have him call me or give me his number which i doubt they will do. I won't say what for i don't want to get him in trouble, i just was those back because i plan to get D* again.

Uhhh, yeah... He should not have taken that stuff. You need to call Time Warner and get them to correct the issue. I understand you're trying to be nice, but depending on what kind of customer you are when you re-sign up with DirecTV, you might have to pay for an install to get things set back up if you don't have those parts.

he wont get in trouble. just call time warner and let them know he disconnected your sattelite equiptment and accidently took something that you need to turn it back in or get charged for it. stuff like that happens all the time.

I figured the 4 way splitter was hooked into the SWM1 port, and the connection was just hidden by the splitter in the picture? Not sure though.

Like the others said though, this installer needs to return those parts to you. I'm wondering if he didn't take them so he could sell them on eBay and make himself some extra money, they go for $50 and up.

Look carefully at the photo.
The splitter input runs behind the SWiM-16 and out the other side.

The splitter blocks the view of the three ports, but there isn't anything connected to them or the coax would show.

Questions I don't know:

  1. when was this photo taken?
  2. Was DirecTV out and could they have removed the "useless" SWiM-16?
  3. Did the Time Warner tech even know what he was looking at?
Could be the -16 was removed before and a ground block replaced it as that's about all the good the configuration shows it is.

Photo was taken the morning on the day the install before the Time Warner tech arrived. I took the picture to see how everything was hooked up, so when i cancel Time Warner i can hook D* back up.

Ok so i called Time Warner and explained what happened.

They opened a case and told me they would contact me in 24-48hrs on my urgent issue. So i wait a week and no call. I contact them via chat and the agent tells me they are tracking the items and i would have an update in 24-48hrs.

That night i get home and find the stuff on my front door, no sorry note or anything.

Oh and Time Warner still never got back to me.
