I have heard many talk about features such as Season Pass and Suggestions, being patented by Tivo. Don't patents expire after 7 years? If so, If I remember right, I got my first Tivo in 97. Can any lawyers out there (who a ren’t ashamed to admit it) :D shed any light on this?

20 years from when it was filed (not issued).

Their oldest one ("Method and apparatus implementing random access and time-based functions on a continuous stream of formatted digital data") was filed 1998-04-03.

Season Pass is not a TiVo patent, maybe the "name" but not the feature

Suggestions however, is a TiVo patent.
