TODO list alternative?

1443 Views 24 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  Steve
After I started this thread this morning, it occurred to me that if I could filter the GUIDE by "Scheduled Recordings", it would present an alternate and sometimes more desirable view of the TODO list that might be easier to navigate, using the available options in the GUIDE to jump to a specific date and time. Also, unlike the TODO list, the GUIDE displays the program description for highlighted shows.

Would anyone find this proposed Wish List request useful?

A new GUIDE filter that only displays SCHEDULED RECORDINGS.

TIA for your comments.

Being able to do this from the Guide would be very useful to me.

I sometimes want to see what's in the To-Do list when I'm in the guide looking for something to watch.

It would be more convenient to do this without having to leave the Guide.

Ya. Even before this request, I've always been a proponent of a TODO list shortcut from the GUIDE screen, since over 50% of the respondents in this poll said they prefer to schedule their recording from the GUIDE, when possible. /steve
Are they ever going to fix the ToDo functionality they broke several months ago?

That's been broken for a long time now.

<And please, no debates about the definition of broken vs. changed. It used to work and now it doesn't. Color it how ever you want but that is "broken".>

With all due respect, not the subject of this thread. If you do a SEARCH, you'll find lots of places to discuss the best way to get to TODO, if that's what you're talking about.

Please... let's try to stay on topic. TIA. :) /steve

Yes, you're right. I'm sorry.

I voted 'yes' on your poll. I think that would be quite handy.

No apologies necessary. I find myself doing the same thing... more often than I care to admit to! /steve
I voted for no change, since I don't consult my short TODO list very often.
I'd rather have a filter that shows me only the programs I'm NOT recording (against my favorites list of course). Although I doubt I'd use either filter all that much. If I used them twice though it would be more than I use any of the existing filters which I find to quite useless as they work by someone's idea of channel type and not current programming.
Would one have to use the red and green buttons to jump 12 hr periods? I am just having a hard time picturing the format.

you could, but you might miss a lot of recordings. I envision a GUIDE with only the channels you record from listed vertically in the left column, and the normal time grid going across. Only shows you record would be shown, so a lot of empty boxes, but for a limited # of channels, so manageable. You could quickly arrow through them, or red/green to jump 12 hours, or YELLOW to jump to date/time.

Nice thing is when you highlight a show, you'll see the normal brief synopsis on top, unlike TODO.

Thanks to Mike D'Angelo for adding a voting option that should have been there in the first place:

I probably won't use this feature, but don't mind if it's there for others who will.

If anyone would like to change their vote, just PM one of the mods (Mike, Doug, Stuart or Tom), or click the "report this message" icon on the left, with a request to change your vote. TIA. /steve
It needs to show conflicts as well, maybe grey out shows that have a priority but are being blocked. This would show that silly 1 minute problem so you could deal with the padding right from the guide.
To follow-up on JMCecil - How about putting the channels that have recordings scheduled 'before' your local channels (or at least in one area) on the guide. If a speed button could be pressed to make this happen whereever you were would be great but probaly to difficult to program.
I would also like to see any conflicts. Recording or to be recorded could be green and those that conflicted and will be recorded later could be yellow and those not being recorded at all due to a conflict could be red.
OK looking at my own post, yellow will not work, maybe magenta?

Excellent idea. Grey'd out grid cells would make excellent visual cues and allow you to zero in on trouble areas much quicker than looking for the *'d shows, IMO. /steve

Interesting idea to differentiate between "conflicted and rescheduled" vs. "conflicted with no other showings available". I like it!

My .02... probably no need to color shows that will record. Perhaps use orange for "rescheduled" and "red" for "will not record"?

Other ideas? :) /steve
voted option #2....dont really record enough stuff to matter.
I would like the programmers to get the TODO list to populate correctly before adding trick features like this.

I hear you. Two separate issues tho. :)

I believe you are referring to the fact that the TODO list does not populate as quickly as it should. It sometimes takes days for all matching shows in the current GUIDE data to appear. To that end, we have a current Wish List request to be able to force the TODO list to do an immediate update.

This new request is simply for another way to view whatever is in the existing TODO list by creating a GUIDE filter that only shows those channels with shows scheduled to record. :) Since the majority of folks schedule their recordings via the GUIDE, I thought it might be very handy to be able to switch GUIDE views while doing so.
