OK, say you have an "upconverting" DVD player that upconverts content to 1080i, then a DLP HDTV that upconverts it AGAIN to 1080p? I've seen that MOST on the market right now claim to do this...can you do "too much" and actually see a REDUCTION in quality?

In general its better to let a TV that does 1080P do the up conversion in one step. Most will take a dvd 480i signal, recognize the underlying 480p source (if it is 480p and this is not essentially an upconvert) and then take the 480p signal and upconvert it.
