Yes but I wonder... has there ever been a 480p/24 DVD? It will only play 1080p/24 if the source is 24 frames.
Sure it does....HDMe said:Thing is... Blu ray didn't "win". Toshiba and HD DVD quit rather than potentially lose... but this does not equate to a Blu ray win.
Must have missed that one on your "Wrong Decisions" list.Stuart Sweet said:They can have mine back
If you have a large collection of DVDs and just bought a fancy 1080p TV it might make sense to spend $75 on an up-converter, like a Toshiba SD-6100, until Blu-ray Disc becomes more mainstream and affordable in a couple of years.Nick said:I don't understand why anyone would want an upconverting
DVD player that won't also play Blu-ray discs.
Samsung has had 2 upconverting 1080P units since last year... less than $70 from Amazon.koji68 said:http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/dvd/product.asp?model=xd-e500
I ran into this looking for an upconverting DVD. I have not seen a 1080p one before
Actually that was the reason I started the wrong decisions list...MicroBeta said:Must have missed that one on your "Wrong Decisions" list.
You make a good point, Chas. I just sold my five-year old, 53" Panny RPTV today and I'll be replacing it with a 65" Mitsu 1080p for my new house, which I'll be closing on tomorrow. Giving thought to what you said, I might just spring for the upconverting DVD player so I can squeeze the hi-res PQ out of my standard DVD collection.HIPAR said:If you have a large collection of DVDs and just bought a fancy 1080p TV it might make sense to spend $75 on an up-converter, like a Toshiba SD-6100, until Blu-ray Disc becomes more mainstream and affordable in a couple of years.
That's how I advised my nephew and his setup looks quite nice.
