Trading in a leased D11 receiver

Here is the deal. I currently have a leased D11 receiver and I can't stand paying $5/month for the receiver. I have a buddy that happens to have 6 receivers in his house but is using only 4 of them. The 2 that are spares are ones that he owns and aren't leased. He is going to give me one so that I can use it. How do I go about calling up DirecTV and telling them of this situation? Should I be honest with them or do I need to fib a bit about this situation? Will I need to swap cards between the units or anything like that?

I don't know the model of the receiver that my buddy will be giving me. All he said is that it is definitely SD, it is black, and it isn't a DVR unit.

Thanks.

You would need to have DIRECTV send you a recovery kit to send the leased unit back to them.

Than you will probably have to pay $20 for a new access card for the receiver he is giving you and you will still have to pay $4.99 a month for it.

The $4.99 lease fee is called additional receiver fee on owned units and it is still $4.99. The fee is to mirror the programming to all receivers after the first one.
