transponder reception issue

Hello...I have an older Hughes Tivo unit (not HD) that is having issues periodically with receiving a good reception on Sat In 2. The odd thing is it is only on local channels. The Other Sat In 1 receives the signal at 95-100% so I know the signal is there. I checked my other receivers, including another Tivo unit (HD model), and there is no issue at all with the reception on either tuner.

Does this point to a cable wire that has come loose on the satellite (they are all solid on the back of the receiver)? Or does it mean possible failure of the receiver. I have rebooted the receiver before and it correted the problem but now I am rebooting again as I type this. Ok after reboot, no change..still low or NO percentage on local transponders...

Any helpful ideas would be appreciated! :whatdidid

Thanks

Swap the cables and see if the problem moves to tuner 1.

There is no change whatsoever. I still get the 95-100% on Sat in 1...and very little to nothing on Sat In 2
Sounds like the tuner could be going out then. If when you switch the cable the problem does not switch with it, that means the rest of your system should be fine (dish, any multiswitches, cabling, etc.).

That's probably the case.

There is one last thing that you can try. Depower the receiver and let it set overnight. This may or may not correct the problem and, if it does seem to correct the problem, it may be temporary. In either case, this should confirm the tuner as the problem.
Another thing to try ....

These Tivo-based DVRs sometimes develop an strange problem where SAT2 "dies" if you're using the SVideo connection between the Tivo and your TV. If you are using SVideo, try removing that cable and using composite (yellow RCA) instead.

That is indeed beyond "strange".....
