Immediately after being Turboed, the sound volume for my SD locals dropped substantially. My HD channels were not affected.

Has anyone else seen this?

Instead of a volume set at 19 I now use 29. Also, my surround sound changed greatly as well. The surround effect is now much less.

I have a vip622 and HD Absolute programming.

Hi Fred,
I have a Denon AV surround which displays "5.1 digital" during national broadcasts but switches down to regular TV sound when it returns to the local channels. Especially during a broadcast of the today show etc. The volume drop I havent noticed.

I've seen it too. I can't use the volume control on the TV because I'm going through a surround system, but there is a noticeable difference.

Note. This is excruciating at times. the commercials can be substantially louder than the show itself. So much so that i HAVE to turn it down

Yes, but I didn't associate it with the Turbo update.
My KNTV and WXIA NBC SD channels (I have to get these as there is no local NBC affiliate for Gainesville FL) are WAY WAY down, I noticed it watching the olympics.

I too noticed a significant volume drop with the "Turbo" upgrade. Not only is the volume lower, when you crank up the TV volume to compensate, the sound quality is also much lower. Enough that it is starting to irritate me. SD channels are affected more than HD.

:D I have the same problem with the standard def channels. I have to turn the volume up now that I have been Turboed! Not that this is a bad thing. Now I do not have to worry about switching from HD channel to SD channel and having the volume blarring.

I first noticed the changes in sound level about two weeks ago when my 722 received 6.10.

Now that the 722 and 622 have both received 6.12, the sound
level is about the same on the music channels (PCM 48) and HD (Dolby 5.1).

I believe Dish did this to reduce the sudden increased volume when changing from
a Dolby to a non-Dolby channel.

Dish SD locals and Dish SD channels have lower volume. I kept the TV1 volume at 25 for all channels and now I have to up it to 35 when I watch SD. This even affects previously recorded SD on the DVR. In addition, TV2 output is now MONO no matter the channel.

Who among you has bothered to communicate this phenomenon directly to
Dish so it can be addressed? Just posting online does not accomplish that.

I personal have not felt a difference. Are the people that are experiencing the difference using audio through TV or are people that have HT receivers also experiencing it.

Totally agree Fast.. This forum is definitely about discussing these type of issues... I would also suggest that it is always a good idea to both discuss the issues here and if you feel the issue has high enough customer pain threshold, give Dish a call and report it.

Also good to work both channels and even though we do get a lot of E* Engineering eyes on this forum, there is no guarantee that the will focus in on a particular issue.

Well, let's see...

How many posts have I seen complaining about how the SD channels were much louder than the DD5.1 channels?

Well Dish has addressed the issue and probably it needs some more tweaking, but all I read is gripe, gripe, gripe.

Some people are never satisfied.

Nice to know they're "working on a resolution" to something that likely is the resolution to the complaints from those who don't understand the reason for the volume difference and those who don't like it even if they do. Dish didn't include this in the L610 release notes, so it's hard to say for sure if it's a problem, or a change that wasn't disclosed even though it's likely to have been done by customer request.
