Two HR 20s same remote

I had a DTV HR20 and DTV Tivo set up on the same TV allowing me to record four programs at once. I used the tivo for the kids and wife because the don't care much about picture quality and even they could figure out how to use the TiVo.

So this week DTV called and offered to replace my Tivo with the latesy DTV DVR for free. I am pretty sure it is the latest HR20 (it is black now). The rest of the family is mad about losing the Tivo, but I am glad to get the latest DVR for free considering I paid $1000 for the HD Tivo about 5 years ago.

Anyway, everything is great except now the same remote frequency works both DVRs, so when I am bouncing around on the watched DVR I am also bounce around on the other DVR that I am not watching. I am afraid that I'll stop a recording on the dormant DVR if I hit the wrong remote buttons at the right time.

So how do I get around one remote working both DVRs. Unfortunately I did not think of this until the DTV guy left. I am sure I am not the first with this issue, but some quick searches here did not yield an answer. Their must be two different channels for the remotes to avoid this issue. Any ideas?

Thanks

You'll need to program AV1 for your second DVR.
I use the RF mode for both of mine, but it can be done with IR also.
"I believe" the key is to use the 0003 code.
Search for [almost any] posts from Edmund as he is our "remote master" [guru].

BTW, your new receiver is an HR21, not an HR20. The black ones are HR21s while the silver ones are HR20s.
You could also set one remote to RF and leave the other on IR.
1. Slide the switch to AV1 or AV2 on the remote.
2. Hold Mute & Select until light blinks twice.
3. Enter 00003. (I'm about 90% sure that is the right code)
4. Using the buttons on the front panel of the hddvr, press Menu.
5. Select Parental, Faves, and Setup.
6. Select System Setup.
7. Select Remote.
8. Select Receiver Mode.
9. Change setting from Directv setting to AV1 or AV2 setting.

I used 00002 just the other day to do this exact thing with IR. FYI:whatdidid :new_puppy

I know it is splitting hairs as the OP most likely got an HR21, but some of the HR20s were black as well.

There are a couple of codes that will work with the different receivers. Did you use that code on a HDDVR? I have used 00002 on SD receivers before but haven't ever had to set up a HDDVR this way. I was thinking that I read somewhere around here that you had to use the other code instead. (Once again, I could be wrong here too.)

I guess the easiest way would be to start with 00002 and work your way up until one works, lol.

Here is another thread that goes into full detail how to program multiple receivers onto one D* remote:

I hope this helps.

Good point. It was on an H21. (non DVR on top of my HR21)
