Asking this for a friend. I don't have two HDTV's so I can't test this.

Can both the component and HDMI outputs on the HR20 be used at the same time? In other words, can you have the HDMI hooked up to one TV, the component hooked up to another TV and get video on both while turned on at the same time? (Same channel obviously.)

Thanks,
Bob

Just to clarify...even if both TV's are on at the same time? According to my friend, that was the issue with the HR10 connecting to two TVs using two outputs. You could hook two TVs up, but if you turned both of them on, whichever one was turned on last would have video, and the other would go black.

Thanks!

That was an issue with the HR10, not so with the HR20

I have a follow up question to add to this. I am interested in running video to Two Seperate TVs in my house with only one HR-20 and one HD-DVR. How LONG can you stretch an HDMI, Component, and optical (or coaxial) digital audio cable across your house without signal degradation.

Thanks,

Martin

HDMI... short... in general, you "should" keep it less then 12 feet. It is not intended for long runs.

Component, can go a little longer... but I am not sure "how long"

Optical, I am pretty sure needs to be short as well (less then 12 feet).

The guys over at AVSForum can really help you a lot with that

Earl,

I have looked around at the AVS forums but I couldn't find a good place to throw this question around. I will look again.

jmeitz,

50ft with HDMI? That might actually be enough for me.....

Basically, I'm trying to relocate my video and audio across my house without buying two of all my electronics.

Thanks for the input,

Martin

they make longer cables, i think 100ft is the max without a booster.

100ft HDMI?? How many of your children would you have to sell to pay for 100ft of HDMI?
Thankfully at monoprice, only a gerbil or two. No children selling required.

Cheers,
Tom

We're not talking about Monster cables here. You'd have to refinanace your house to pay for a 100ft Monster HDMI cable. It's worth it, though, because it makes the 1s and 0s better.
