If you're in single mode, you don't need to do anything. TV2 remote will operate the same as TV1 remote.
Ok, then what is the advantage of setting the key switch to the 3rd position that others have talked about?zuffy said:If you're in single mode, you don't need to do anything. TV2 remote will operate the same as TV1 remote.
That is needed if you want to operate in dual mode, and have BOTH TV1 and TV2 controlled via UHF. Like if you put your receiver in a closed closet or cabinet and need to control TV1 via UHF, but want an independent TV2 also controlled by UHF. If Single mode is active, there is no reason to not just use the TV2 remote (although that remote can't change the Shared View setting).JeffN9 said:Ok, then what is the advantage of setting the key switch to the 3rd position that others have talked about?
Ok this makes sense to me now. I can also see a scenerio where someone might have three tv's,(2 HD and 1 SD) hooked up to one receiver and want to control the receiver with two UHF remotes.CABill said:That is needed if you want to operate in dual mode, and have BOTH TV1 and TV2 controlled via UHF. We have a similar setup (2 HD sets on one box and no kids) and typically leave the 722 set to single / shared so that the UHF Pro remote will work when watching HD TV1 on that second display.JeffN9 said:We do not have any kids so no worries about naughty movies and since there is only the two of us I do not anticipate many problems with having to watch the same Dish programming on two tv's. In fact we had a similiar setup with Direct for 8 years before switching to Dish. Also since both tv's have ATSC tuners one can watch OTA while the other is watching something on the dish. We are enjoying being able to watch Dish HD programming in the kitchen and also the DVR recorded stuff in HD.
Just switching to single mode seemed way to easy to me, I thought I was missing something.
Thanks for all the info CABill.
These are good ideas that I hadn't thought of. It's ironic that you mention a IR repeater because I actually installed one as part of the install of the component cable. The cable I used had a Cat 5 wire set in addition to having the five componet leads so I used that for the repeater. I wanted that to control my stereo receiver in the lower level from upstairs in the kitchen.slowmo said:To the extent that you also connect the second HD set via the modulated TV2 coax connection and occassionally your wife and you want to watch different Dish programming concurrently, you can just switch back to Dual mode and continue to use that UHF Pro to change the modulated TV2.
Going one step further, you could set up an IR repeater system from the second set back to the 722, leave the 722 set on Dual mode and then just use the SAT mode on the UHF Pro to control SD TV2 and the AUX mode on the UHF Pro to control HD TV1 (after changing inputs on your second display). It keeps you from having to change from Single to Dual and vice versa on the box but does require the IR repeater system since AUX mode is IR only.
