Upconverts on the -1 Channels

With all the new 24 / 7 HD RSN's, is anyone else frustrated with D* confusing us with upconverted games as HD broadcasts on their web site?
They look better than SD, but maybe we're getting spoiled with all the HD.

Don't get me wrong, MLB EI has been the greatest bargain ever at about $1.30 a day and over 75% of all games in HD this year.

But if a game is not in HD, they should at least tell us it's an upconvert.

I go to HDSportsguide now instead of D*. They're not perfect, but they're the best out there.

OK, I'm confused.

It's the responsibility of the broadcaster to flag a game as HD or not, so if something isn't flagged properly, it's not DirecTV's fault.

But, I just skimmed some of the upcomming games listed on HDSportsguide and DirecTV's MLBEI Schedule and didn't see anything indicated as being available in HD on DirecTV with a -1 channel that didn't have a corresponding listing for an HD broadcast on HDSportsguide.

Not saying it doesn't happen at times, just that I didn't see anything obvious and it's not DirecTV's fault if the provider makes something available as HD that isn't.

Turn on 732-1 or 736-1 right now. Upconverts. And 736-1 is tagged as HD

Conversely 731-1, 733-1, and 735-1 are in HD but not tagged.
some of the games may just be in digital wide screen not true HD.

736-1 went thru a technical issue (I don't know any details if at FSN or DIRECTV), but the game definitely started in HD thru the first inning. Somewhere along the way, it was switched to letterboxed SD. Again, I don't know why or by whom. (Here it almost always is the local affiliate that misses a switch on a commercial break; but I don't have enough experience with the FSNs.)

Cheers,
Tom

Happens on FSN's as well. There have been Tigers games on FSN Detroit that were supposed to be in HD and started out SD. A quick call to FSN Detroit to complain and they call the Houston studio and viola the HD switch is thrown. Pretty amazing this stuff is still manual these days.

In this case if it started HD and went down to SD there may have been technical difficulty with the HD feed and so they dropped down to SD to keep the game going instead of just showing a blank screen.

As for being HD in the guide, that is totally up to each channel how that get's labled. I never trusted FSN to get that correct as they didn't label Red Wings games as HD at all even though they were in HD. However about halfway thru last hockey season FSN Detroit finally started labeling their games in the guide as HD. But it still wasn't 100%. I always look to online schedules to see if it's really is HD or not. However I'd be recording the game anyway so frankly it doesn't matter to me if it's in the guide or not. ;)
