Greetings,

A year ago I investigated upgrading to DirecTV's HD DVRs but read that the 20 had so many problems decoding and showing captions properly that I decided to put it off for awhile since I am 100% reliant on captions.

I did a forum search here but can't seem to find a consensus -- has the closed captioning problem been fixed on the latest models?

Many thanks,
Ray

Talk to Capmeister... he can point you in the direction of some of the closed captioning threads, as well as give you some input on where it stands.

He spent alot of time over the last several years logging problems with captioning.... even getting 'angry' a time or two.... but I think that this point he's pretty happy with how the captioning performs... Which for those of us who saw how bad he complained about it in the beginning... that's saying alot about where captioning stands today.

LOL, sounds like me. I'd get real frustrated at those sort of things. Thanks for the heads up!

Here's a thread Capmeister started in June dealing with closed captioning.

IIRC, Capmeister has a brother who is deaf and relies on the captioning, so the problems that were occurring at the outset were a major headache... and he really did spend a HUGE amount of time documenting the issues and the progession (and sometimes regression) of captioning here.
