I want to Upgrade my D12 receiver in my 4th room to HD so I can have Whole home DVR in this room now.

My questions are I see I can get the H25, which we have one , its nice and small and works great.

But I also see solid Signal leases R22's as well, Besides size and the fact that one is DVR and one is not, are there any pros and cons to adding either or to my system?

This will increase my recording abilitys I imagine, but by How much, and can this pick up all the HD channels Still?

I do Have a Swim 16 system, so would I have to do anything else?

I'd take the R22 over a non DVR just so you have trick play functions on live TV. And since you have HD on the account then you will get all the HD channels just like any HD receiver. Don't forget though that you'd need an external DECA for the R22 or an ethernet connection to your network.

But if it was me I'd just spend the extra $100 and get a HR24, faster interface and larger hard drive and built in DECA.

Think of an R22 as an HR21, that's the hard drive size. I have heard that DirecTV's policy now is that if an R22 that's on an HD account, it is replaced with an HR2x. Before, it was possible to get an R16.

This was what I was going to mention. One drawback is that if the R22 fails it could be replaced by a standard def DVR, which won't work with Whole Home DVR.

However, if what dpeters11 said is true it seems like that concern may be gone. You might see if Shades228 or one of the other DirecTV employees might be able to confirm this for you.

Plus one more Splitter outside Next to the Swim 16.

Since your D12 doesn't have a DECA on it you'd need a new DECA on the R22 to connect it to the coax network, that is unless you have an Ethernet connection available where the R22 is going that you can connect it to.

You only need 1 deca per house hold no?

The deca I have now is connected to my Hr23, and then it goes to a Splitter, then splits out to the Swim and one wire to each bedroom.

The HR34's Ethernet connection will act like a broadband DECA that connects the coax network to your Ethernet network. The HR23's DECA connects that STB to the coax DECA network. If you get a R22 it would need a DECA connected just like on the HR23 to connect that STB to the CECA coax network.

DECA was built into the H24, H25, HR24 and HR34. All other units require a DECA adapter. What used to be called a BBDECA broad band deca is now a CCK cinema connection kit which connects to your router. Only one CCK required unless you have a very complex setup with over 16 tuners.

OK that makes sence now.

So if I did the R22, it would require more wires and another Deca.

OK I'll just get the H25 then.
