Need some clarification from people who know so I came here. I currently have an H25-100 I want to upgrade to a DVR hopefully an HR24. I already have single wire installed and my router is right next to the TV. Directv is insisting they need to have an installer come out for the swap. I would rather them just send me the DVR and I'll swap it myself is their something I'm missing? Thanks

I'd order a DVR from a site like Solid Signal. You'd need to pay the $200, but it's the only way to guarantee a 24. If you disconnect the 25 from your account, you'd need to send it back to DirecTV. Of course this wold still start a two year agreement.

Would be a simple swap out though.

They won't do that anymore. Installer has to do the upgrade. You could order it from solid signal the you can install it Yourself. Chances are you won't get hr24 from directv. Could be hr21 22 or 23

You have no way of knowing in advance if the Directv installer/subcontractor will have an HR24. You can do better on eBay than Solid Signal. I got my HR24 brand new for $169 off of eBay and got Direct to give me that amount in credits on my account including credit for the install. If they insist on sending an installer out there is nothing preventing you from installing it yourself before he gets there and just signing the paper that he was there. I have done that a couple of times as I don't like Directv's subcontractors messing with my setup.

Just curious though, if you are going for an HR24 why not go whole hog for an HR34? By playing CSR roulette you could get a fantastic deal on both the DVR and the install. I have both an H24 and HR24 I bought off of eBay and an HR34 I played CSR roulette for. Makes for a nice setup.

The CR is giving me the HD DVR for $99 and waiving the DVR charge for six months. Not bad since I haven't even been with them for a year. I already have a TiVo premiere Q with RCN. The directv DVR is just for my HD sports.

Then just have them come install it, but as others mentioned, it could be any HD DVR.

They are crazy if they think people are gonna pay that kind of money for leased equipment. Considering RCN gave me a TiVo Quad for free. They better wake up smell the competition. They aren't crazy. People have paid that, others hit a deal,either through CSR roulette, or a new subscriber deal. But there are definitely those that paid $400. I'd rather do that than pay $1000 outright for an SD box like back in the day
