·Does the dish network 2700 reciever recieve any software upgrades ever? Also, I was thinking about upgrading to the PVR 501. Would I be better off waiting for the new PVR about to be launched?

It depends what your looking for......I love my 501, but would like to have the 721......I really want the 2 tuners in the 721.
The 721 will probably carry a $500.00 price tag......just guessing.
Only thing I don't like about the 501 is I can't watch one show and record the other. The 501 is sweet, especially since they just added search and Caller ID.

I usually just lurk around here (in fact this may be my first reply!) but I am gonna take a shot at this one since the 2700 question hasn't been answered yet and I have one active.
It depends on what kind of software upgrades you are referring to. If you mean upgrades in general then yes the 2700 does get upgrades. Just FYI my 2700 is currently at software version 719 and identifies itself (on the system info screen) as a 2700/3700/2800. I believe this is the current version for the 2700, mine just received it within the past month.
If you are referring to the OpenTV upgrade that allows for interactive features such as Dish Home then no it will not get that type of a software upgrade. IIRC the 2700 does not have enough memory to support OpenTV.

All the receivers should have or should be getting software updates soon, the updates are needed so that the receiver properly works with (and depending on your area) without spot beams.
So while models may be discontinued they still update the software so you can still use the older receivers with the newer technologies.
As J Rath said Open TV will not be available to 2700's. Infact any receiver that can handle OpenTV should have been upgraded to OpenTV by now. If your receiver does not have it then it probably never will.

It recieved a big one back in Augest that turned it into a 2800, by adding 'All Sub' and Song titles on the Muzak channels and someother things.
