I called Directv to cancel my D10 standard receiver. While on the phone I asked the CSR if they ever have any discounts on programming.
She said well if you agree to a 1 year commitment you can get $10 off for 12 months. I said okay, im not going anywhere anyway.
Well later I checked my account and they put it in as 6 months, so I called back to get it corrected and while I was waiting I asked the rep how much would it cost to get a old NON ACTIVE HR10-250 upgraded to the new MPEG4 HDDVR, he said since you are a long time customer, Ill give it to you for $99, I said let me talk it over with my wife, he said how about $49 =$19shipping, I said let me talk it over with the wife, he said is it the money amount or the wife, I said I dont think she would want to spend more money for another reciever, he said how about just the $19 shipping fee, I said Ill call you back, please note my account, he said Ill give it to you free and no shipping. He said since your old HR10 is not active on the acct, you can keep it. He said Ill ship it to you so you want have to deal with a installer.

So I got a $120 worth of credit
& free HDDVR with out a swap.

2 years ago Directv gave me 2 HR20s free and let me keep my 2 HR10s.

The rep said we really want to do everything we can to make sure we keep you happy so you will stay with us for a long time.

*************************************************************
My online acct also is offering me a
FREE DVR, FREE HD RECVR or another HD DVR for $99, I may go for the free HD reciever to replace a standard recv I have now.

Yes I had to commit for 2yrs but Im not going anywhere else.

Just call and when the automated system ask what you want, say deactivate a reciever or cancel service, when I said cancel receiver, the person who answered said cust retention, just ask if they offer programming discounts.

Oh, it does. Start a CSR off with an attitude and you probably won't go anywhere.
Absolutely agree. THis is the reason I cannot let my wife call them. She gets upset really quickly and nothing gets resolved. I can call right back, be supoer polite and I have never not at least gotten a fair attempt at resolution.:)

I called tonight to see about getting a AM21 tuner for my new HR21. I asked what options did Directv have for a OTA tuner, she said Ill place a order for you for a AM21 free of charge. So I got a FREE HR21 and now a AM21.

remember, if you get a CSR that isn't in a "giving" mood, simply end the call and call back. Just because you get a sh*tty CSR on the 1st (or even 2nd) call, doesn't mean you have to deal with them. You might get lucky on your next try!

no it doesnt. it just depends on what all center youre directed to and which CSR you get.
Of course it does. It does in all things. I got tons of freebies and upgrades when I travelled a lot when I was very nice or very patient and understanding.

Restaurants that I go to treat me better if I am a nice customer and if I go there often enough, they even tell you that that was important.

Got my AM21 today for my free HR21, hook up was easy and the tuners are better than the HR20.

Ordered Sat, system kept saying PROCESSING, called Monday and the rep said Im not sure why its showing that, let me set up another order, youll get one ethier way, well this morning both showed processing, then at lunch the original showed up and was shown to be delivered this afternoon.

CSR roulette is not tolerated nearly as much as it was/has been in the past.

Better than an HR20-100S definitely.
But about the same as HR20-700.

The 100 series (H and HR) that I've had all suffer from bad multipatch problems but the 700 series is nearly as good as my ATSC tuners in my HDTV's.

And great deal. Congrats!

I agree, it shouldn't be...
No, we shouldn't have to tolerate it! Customers should be able to get the same level of service no matter which CSR or call center they contact!

Oh, but maybe you meant that D* should not tolerate customers calling multiple times seeking better deals? Well, if that's the case, then they need to stop negotiating like car dealerships. They would need one set of prices for their equipment and services, with possible "fixed" special offers to entice new subscribers or retain old subscribers. Today, they don't do that and thus whatever they offer is open for negotiation. Just like buying a car, if I don't get the deal I want from one person, I'll try another until I finally get the lowest price I can. If I get a rude, unhelpful salesperson, I'll leave and find another that I like better.
