Upgrading from a D-10

I have had Direct TV for a couple of years and I have two Direct Tivo receivers and also a D-10, if I want to upgrade the D-10 to a DirecTV Plus DVR do I understand right that I will have to pay a $5 monthly rental fee?

If you have to pay a monthly rental fee I assume you don't pay anything for the DVR? Can you just buy it?

Do anyone know what model DVR they would send you and is there any models to stay away from? Thanks!

if you replace the D10 receiver with an R16 or R22, it won't cost any more money then you pay now. Reason? You pay 4.99 mirror fee for the D10 now, that will be replaced with 4.99 lease fee, so that's a wash. And since you're ready pay a dvr fee for the two Dtivos on your account, that same fee will cover the new DVR as well.

The mirror/lease fee is $4.99 per DVR after the 1st DVR which that fee for the first DVR is included in your package.I highly recommend the R22-100 which is just now being offered to all DirecTV subscribers,There is a $99. upgrade fee and a 24 month commitment.

Now if you cannot live without the ability of having DLB(that's jumping back and forth between 2 live buffers, which the DirecTV's DVR+'s don't do yet). You may want to find and purchase a used DirecTivo.;)

Thanks guys for the explanations! Since I'm a DTivo user and my wife uses the D10 I don't have a clue in the differences between the R16 or R22 or have actually seen how either operate but if you highly recommend the latter then that's probably what I should get.

Just curious does it cost $99 to upgrade to the R16 also? Does the $99 include installation although since I already have a second coax run to the D10 I probably wouldn't need it but I might have to post for instructions setting up (and registering?) the R22.

If I decide to upgrade will I automatically get a R22 or will I specifically have to tell DTV this is what I want? What are the chances of them telling me I can't have one but I can have a R16?

Since my wife has never used a DTivo she is not used to switching back and forth between live buffers so that shouldn't be an issue for her. Myself though I guess I can't comprehend how this works on a R16 or R22 because you must be able to jump back and forth between tuners, in actual use how is this procedure different from a DTivo?

There is no way to determine what you will get if you upgrade through DirecTV. It could be an R15, R16 or R22. The only way to get a specific model is to go to a local retailer and obtain it there (you will still be leasing regardless).

The dual tuner capability gives the user no choice of tuner. The DVR will use the second tuner when it needs to, there is no way to select it. You have a single 90 minute live buffer, and as soon as you change channels it is gone and starts fresh on the new channel.

I hope I understand this right:

1. I own my Tivos and the D10 but if I upgrade it will cost me $99 to upgrade no matter where I buy it (plus a 2 year commitment and then I must return it if I quit DTV) but it won't cost me anymore per month?

2. Since Best Buy has them on backorder where else can I buy a R22?

3. Is there anything specific I need to do in registering or setting up the R22, I had DTV install all my other equipment?

1.Correct.DirecTV started leasing in March 2006.If you quit before the 2 year commitment is up you will have to pay a prorated amount.
2. You need to wait Best Buy will be getting R22s.You could also try to find a local DirecTV dealer and see if he might have an R22.If not a little wait time is what you would need to do.
3.If you need a second line ran once you get an R22 DirecTV should send an installer out.If you find a local dealer that has an R22 he could run the second line and install the R22.;)

This is the difference between an R15/16 and a R22.
R15/16.An MPEG2 DVR-100 hours recording.
R22.An MPEG2/MPEG4 DVR-200 hours recording
has the ability to access MediaShare,30 second skip,a more complete guide(First Air Date).Receives updates with the HRxx DVRs.;)
SWM compatible.
I have both the R15 and R22.Right now the R22 is DirecTV's best DVR you can get and a great improvement from the R15/16.;)

Good Luck!:)
My local best buy is selling the R16 for $79, and the R22 for $99. even though its back ordered on the website it seems the BM best buys have plenty in stock.
