Upgrading from HD to HDDVR

So I finally saved up my money to purchase an HDDVR, I was looking to see what is currently available and I noticed many people are having problems with the HR-21. So I was just curious what receiver would you guys recommend me getting. Is it also possible to request for a certain receiver when talking to a CSR?

Sure it's possible, but just don't expect the installer to deliver it.

I have both HR20 (2) and a HR21 [working fine]. You will [should] be happy with either. Just make sure the install is good and you wring out the DVR during the "free" 90-day time frame.
A good working DVR is better than one that isn't, and only you will know if it is or not
Thanks for the help. I'll be doing a self install because I used to have a DVR where my HD receiver is now. Do you think they might have some HR-20's in stock because my TV and my stand are silver so I just wanted to match it all together, but black would still look good.

Say if you don't mind me asking, how are networking your HR's?

  1. I don't think there has been a HR20 made in a very long time. "old stock" or refurbs are about the only ones around these days.
  2. Networking [for me] is pretty simple, cat5 cable(s) straight to my router
That is pretty simple networking.
As for an HR20, I'll be happy with the HR21.
