When I get access to buy the captioned, can I use on a conventional basis? I don't care about accessing programs from it from a tv in another room. I like that I can record 5 programs at once. I already have the whole home network setup. Thanks

Yes you can use the HR34 just like any other HR2x except it will have Picture in Picture, and it can record 5 shows at a time.
It does not have to be used as an RVU server, and you don't have to have an RVU TV in order to get one. This was common misinformation that some CSRs were spreading when it was first released, but it shouldn't be spread much anymore.

What they said. I only have one box in my house and its the 34, so no MRV. I just like it because of all the tuners it has
