You need to contact the apartment management and ask them what the situation is.
Using Dish Network at Apartment Complex with AT&T Home Entertainment Dish Network
Hello.
I have a Dish Network DVR 522. I am still under contract. I recently moved to an apartment complex who initially told me they had "Dish Network" for TV and all the apartments were wired for it. Little did I know that it was not the real Dish Network, but AT&T Home Entertainment with Dish Network. AT&T Home Entertainment is a service for apartment complexes, it is different from AT&T Dish Network.
I tried hooking my 522 to the cable jack, and it did not work. Other people have gotten equipment from AT&T working normally. But because I have regular Dish Network, when I plugged it in, it did not work. I just kept hearing a weird sound.
Is it at all possible to get my 522 to work? I am not interested in paying a very hefty early termination fee. Plus, I will be paying much more for less channels if I switched to AT&T Home Entertainment (and it will still be though Dish Network).
I read around the forums, trying to figure this out. I kept seeing mentions of a q-box, but I am not sure what that is. Will it work? Where can I buy one?

Contact building management. You cannot just plug in your receiver and get your own account if you use their wiring.jesse5534 said:Hello.

The management does not know anything. They have a contract with AT&T Home Entertainment. I got a bit information about the q-box. I decided to order service to see if the q-box works with my Dish Network equipment.

I don't know what a q box is but if you have a view of the southern sky from your apartment you ought tobe able to put your own dish and hook it up to the 522. A balcony or some have even said that though a window will work. You should be able to get this done cheaply though the dish mover program but, it could extend your contract so be careful.
Sadly, I lack a view. I guess when the apartment people said "Dish Network," I got excited. I did not realize it was a contracted form of Dish Network with less choices and no international. I have some channels which AT&T does not carry. I ordered service and I will get it tomorrow. I will try to see if I can get the q-box to work with my current equipment.

You'll need 2 of them, and the 522/625 will only work in Single Mode. Go to the TechPortal, in the drop-down menus select Information > Equipment Information > Q-Box.

That wont work. The interesting thing is if he can get 2 Q-boxes. If he can - he would be all set to continue his contract.
