PC gaming can be expensive.....*sigh*

They just came out with the min specs for the upcoming first person shooter from Epic UT2003, and someone is finally raising the min specs bar above the standard PII 400 + 64 megs RAM one sees on every graphics intensive game.

Operating System: WIN 98/ME/2000/XP
CPU: Pentium III or AMD Athlon 733MHz processor (*Pentium® or AMD 1.0 GHz or greater RECOMMENDED)
Memory: 128 MB RAM (256 MB RAM or greater RECOMMENDED)
Hard Disk Space: 3 GB
Egad man a 733 mhz min and 1 ghz recommended! 3 gigs hard drive space! 256 megs or more! And I've seen the benchmarks you're not going to be doing well with a Geforce 2 on this thing, it takes a really ballsy graphics card.

Once the bar is raised like this it usually doesn't go back down often. In fact I saw a list of all the companies using the UT engine for upcoming releases and it's plenty.

Here's a screenshot of it: http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters/products/screens/0,11105,548608,00.html?page=94

No more running around in block mazes man, it's time for trees, grass, and complex textures.

It's hard to imagine having a 1ghz machine and being at the bottom of the recommended CPU scale.
